Additional Postponements And Cancellations Announced During Mourning Period Following Itaewon Tragedy
As Korea continues to observe a national mourning period following the Itaewon tragedy, more broadcasting stations, agencies, and celebrities have announced the cancellations and postponements of upcoming broadcasts and events.
On October 31, SBS announced that their variety show “Same Bed Different Dreams 2” as well as their Monday-Tuesday drama “Cheer Up” would be cancelled this week.
This week, MBC will not air “Buddy Into the Wild,” “Oh Eun Young’s Report: Marriage Hell,” and “DNA Mate.” MBC’s weekday drama “Game of Witches” will also be cancelled, as well as their Wednesday-Thursday drama “May I Help You?”.
ENA has cancelled the upcoming broadcasts of “Love is for Suckers” and “King of Ssireum.”
Music shows will not be aired this week, including “The Show,” “Show Champion,” “M Countdown,” “Music Bank,” and “Music Core.” The cancellation of “Inkigayo” was announced earlier this weekend.
The premiere of MBN’s “Passionate Goodbye” has been cancelled. Mnet will not air “Street Man Fighter,” “Street Man Fighter Commentary,” “Artistock Game,” or “Show Me The Money 11” this week.
In addition to the broadcast cancellation, “Street Man Fighter” has announced changes to their upcoming concerts. Their November 5 and 6 Seoul concerts have been postponed to January 7 and 8, 2023. Their Gangneung concert scheduled for November 12 has been cancelled, due to rehearsals, broadcast changes, and more.
tvN’s October 31 broadcasts of “The Must-Try Restaurants,” “The Rekindling Dance,” and “The Village President’s People” will not air. Later this week, tvN has cancelled the broadcasts of “Young Actors’ Retreat” and “Amazing Saturday.” The press conference for tvN’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama “Behind Every Star” that was originally scheduled for November 2 has been postponed. tvN will also not air their November 2 broadcast of “You Quiz on the Block.”
JTBC will not air this week’s scheduled broadcasts of “Talk Pawon 25 O’Clock,” “Baseball Monsters,” “Over the Top – Men’s Championship,” “The Second World,” “Life Reset Re-Debut Show – A Star is Born,” “World Dark Tour,” “Han Moon Chul’s Black Box Review,” “Marry Me,” “K-909,” and “Knowing Bros.” “Hidden Singer 7” will air as planned on November 4 at 8:50 p.m. KST, with an episode for the late Kim Hyun Sik.
The November 4 broadcasts of Coupang Play’s “Workplace Romance” and Netflix’s new drama “The Fabulous” have been temporarily postponed.
TWICE’s seventh debut anniversary fan meeting “ONCE HALLOWEEN 3” has been cancelled. With regards to why the November 5 event has been cancelled and not postponed, their agency shared, “While we’ve discussed things like changing the concept, we physically do not have enough time so we decided to cancel.”
The global press conference originally set for November 2 for the upcoming 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards (2022 MAMA) has been postponed. The rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.
Agency P NATION has announced that they will postpone the scheduled promotional activities of all their artists until November 5 for the national mourning period.
NATURE’s November 2 comeback has been postponed, as well as TRENDZ single release on November 3. HYBE has postponed their “2022 HYBE Company Briefing with the Community” which was originally scheduled for November 4.
Rocket Punch’s Yunkyoung will no longer hold her upcoming Weverse Live broadcast that was scheduled for the celebration of her birthday.
The press conference for Lee Yi Kyung and Chae Seo Jin‘s upcoming film “Midnight Cafe” has been rescheduled to November 11 at 10:30 a.m. KST.
In addition to the cancellation of the 2022 Busan One Asia Festival (BOF), the Strike Music Festival, the 2022 Korea Sale Festa opening ceremony event, and the MWM Festival have all been either cancelled or postponed.
On the night of October 29, a large crowd crush occurred during Halloween celebrations in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul. At the time of publishing, at least 154 people were confirmed to have died in the incident, with many others injured. The Korean government has announced a period of national mourning until November 5, while the district of Yongsan, where Itaewon is located, has extended the mourning period until December 31.
