Amazon Prime Video To Produce Documentary About SM Founder Lee Soo Man

Amazon Prime Video is producing a new documentary all about SM Entertainment’s founder Lee Soo Man!

A recent exclusive report from Deadline has reported that production company This Machine is gearing up to create a feature documentary about SM’s founder titled “Lee Soo Man: The King of K-Pop.”

Lee Soo Man made his debut as a singer in 1972. In 1989, he established his own entertainment company that he later rebranded as SM Entertainment in 1995. Since then, SM Entertainment has introduced us to artists such as H.O.T., S.E.S., Shinhwa, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, aespa, and more.

The Lee Soo Man documentary will outline “the enthralling life of a bold visionary whose work put his country on the map, sparked a global movement, and continues to define an era,” and he is further described as a futurist and visionary similar to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs who “has taken over global entertainment.” The production will be helmed by filmmaker Ting Poo, the co-director of the 2021 documentary “Val” about actor Val Kilmer, and editor of the Oscar-winning film “Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405.”

Brianna Oh, Amazon Studio’s head of documentary features, commented, “We are thrilled to reunite with Ting Poo to capture Lee Soo Man’s dynamic career and undeniable influence on K-Pop and the music industry as a whole.”

While no release date has been announced yet, this upcoming documentary will eventually be released through Prime Video in 240 countries around the world.
