K-dramas give the best advice sometimes. When it comes K-drama teachers, they have the power to inspire students as well as the global audience. Whether K-drama writers know it or not, their on-screen teachers teach all of us valuable life lessons. Let’s take a trip down memory lane as we remember some of these iconic instructors.
Kang Shin Woo – “My First Love”
This teacher is the best role model for himself. In “My First Love,” Kang Shin Woo (Lee Jung Shin) time-travels to his high school days and encourages the teenage version of himself to be bold. Teen Kang Shin Woo (Seo Ji Hoon) feels that his adult counterpart is his love rival and life mentor. The K-drama “My First Love” is about a man full of regret regarding his missed opportunity at first love. He is given a second chance to change the past through time travel. Kang Shin Woo teaches us to be bold in everything we want in life. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, boldness is a great policy.

Sim Kang Myung – “School 2017”
Teacher Sim Kang Myung (Han Joo Wan) is a soldier for his students! When his students are accused of any wrongdoing, he defends them and offers support as trusted friend. When two girls were caught fighting, he shows compassion and is determined to uncover the root of the problem. “School 2017” is an installment in the famous “School” series, and it follows the story of a rebellious student playing pranks on the school’s administration team. The school is intent on finding the culprit. Sim Kang Myung teaches all of us to strive for justice and never forget to have compassion.

Lee Kang Hoon – “School 2021”
He is one of the most lovable of all the “School” series instructors! Teacher Lee Kang Hoon (Jeon Suk Ho) leads his woodworking class with honesty and integrity. Even though his class is in danger of being eliminated, he guides his students well and encourages them in their strengths. He loves all his students equally. “School 2021” continues the popular “School” series by telling a story about students learning book and life skills in a vocational high school. Lee Kang Hoon teaches all of us to be our best selves despite the circumstances.

Kim Joon Seok – “Who Are You”
Teacher Kim Joon Seok (Lee Pil Mo) is a teacher and an unofficial detective. He does his best to protect his students and even searches for a missing student during a school trip. However, the death of one of his students hits hard. He works tirelessly to comfort his class, find the reason for her death, and ultimately gives her grieving family member the apology and condolences they deserve. As another K-drama that also continues the popular “School” series, “Who Are You” follows the story of orphaned twins separated at a young age, and they begin leading very different lives. A tragic event allows one to assume her sister’s identity. Kim Joon Seok taught all of us that it is never too late to make the right choices in life.

Yang Jin Man – “Dream High” and “Dream High 2”
This teacher encourages himself and his students. Yang Jin Man (Park Jin Young) is depressed that his school has lost its notoriety over the years. When a new group of students arrives, they give him the will to continue his teaching career, and he encourages them to pursue their dreams. Yang Jin Man creates the next songwriters, dancers, and more. “Dream High” is about the lives of teenage idols and aspiring musicians attending a performing arts school. Yang Jin Man teaches all of us that dreams become a reality when you find one that fits your unique talents.
