Winners Of The 58th Grand Bell Awards
The winners of the 58th Grand Bell Awards have been announced!
The Grand Bell Awards, also known as the Daejong Film Awards, is organized by The Motion Pictures Association of Korea. On December 9, the 58th annual ceremony was held at the Konkuk University New Millennium Hall with Kim Tae Hoon and Kang Na Yeon serving as MCs. This year’s event considered 253 films that were released between October 1, 2021 and September 31, 2022.
“Decision to Leave” and “The Outlaws 2” (“The Roundup”) each took home three awards, with the former project winning Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. Although unable to attend the event due to filming in Los Angeles, “Decision to Leave” director Park Chan Wook shared, “This feels like receiving a big present at the end of the year.”
He continued, “Since this is the first Grand Bell awards for the first time in awhile after returning to normalcy, this is an honor and will remain as an unforgettable, precious memory. More than anyone, I’m reminded of the faces of actors Park Hae Il and Tang Wei, and I miss all the other actors and staff members [of ‘Decision to Leave’]. I want to spend this honor with them and once I return home after safely finishing this project, I’ll create a space where we can all meet together. Thank you to the judges and the many people who have loved ‘Decision to Leave.'”
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Ahn Sung Ki, who revealed earlier this year that he was battling cancer. The actor gave his acceptance speech through a video and personally shared that his health has improved greatly.
