"The Forbidden Marriage" Premieres To Promising Ratings + "Reborn Rich" Remains No. 1
MBC’s new drama “The Forbidden Marriage” is off to a strong start!
Based on the web novel of the same name, “The Forbidden Marriage” stars Kim Young Dae as King Yi Heon, who falls deep into despair after the death of his wife and ends up prohibiting marriage in his kingdom. Seven years after the loss of his wife (played by IZ*ONE‘s Kim Min Ju), who was then the crown princess, he comes across a con artist named So Rang (Park Ju Hyun) who claims that she can be possessed by the late princess’s spirit.
On December 9, the new drama premiered to significantly higher viewership ratings than its predecessor “Fanletter, Please,” which previously occupied its time slot. According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “The Forbidden Marriage” scored an average nationwide rating of 4.6 percent. (For comparison, “Fanletter, Please” premiered to a nationwide average of 2.0 percent last month.)
Meanwhile, JTBC’s “Reborn Rich” kicked off the second half of its run as the most-watched program to air on any channel, including public broadcast networks, on Friday—no easy feat for a cable drama. The hit series starring Song Joong Ki scored an average nationwide rating of 17.0 percent for the night.
Finally, SBS’s “The First Responders” remained relatively stable with an average nationwide rating of 8.2 percent for the night.
