Watch: K-Pop Stars Get Real In Teaser For New Documentary "K-Pop Generation"
Your favorite idols are gearing up to get candid about the world of K-pop in a new documentary!
TVING’s original “K-Pop Generation” introduces a new format of “factual entertainment” by adding archiving and dramatization to a documentary. Top-notch artists representing K-pop including Kangta, Super Junior’s Leeteuk, Sunmi, SHINee’s Minho, 2PM, Highlight, EXO’s Suho, MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, NCT’s Doyoung, Stray Kids, TXT, AleXa, ENHYPEN, IVE, and LE SSERAFIM as well as foreign artists JO1, SB19, and NiziU will appear according to the theme of each episode.
Following the release of the documentary’s official poster, the newest teaser gives viewers just a sneak peak of what’s to come in this new documentary series, showing snippets of interviews with the guest stars as they reveal their true thoughts and feelings about certain topics.
IVE’s An Yu Jin starts out by describing K-pop as very diverse, while TXT’s Beomgyu admits that there are parts of K-pop that still feel a bit lacking.
Leeteuk shares, “A song that’s No. 1 on the charts might not be the No. 1 song on a music show,” and music video director Song Won Mo and CEO of RBW Kim Do Hoon go on to comment on how the number of K-pop fans has continued to rise as the music made in the K-pop industry has become less about appealing to the masses and more about targeting a specific audience.
NCT’s Doyoung comments further, “Is popular appeal something that should be discussed when it comes to K-pop?”
Lee Sung Soo, the CEO of SM Entertainment, talks about how things in K-pop don’t always amount to success but could rather be considered new challenges and points of growth, something with which SHINee’s Minho empathizes as he comments how he always tries to take on new challenges. LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon states, “The more criticism you receive, the more you refuse to give up.”
“We’re still a subculture, but we’ll make it into the main culture,” remarks TXT’s Taehyun to wrap things up, ending with a resolute promise to K-pop fans all around the world.
