NewJeans Becomes Fastest K-Pop Group To Achieve Million-Selling Album With "OMG"

NewJeans are officially million sellers just six months after their debut!

According to Circle Chart, NewJeans’ first single album “OMG” has sold 1,013,462 copies as of January 27. This marks NewJeans’ first million-selling album that comes just three and a half weeks after the release of “OMG” on January 2, and six months after their official debut in August 2022 with their self-titled EP. NewJeans is now only the seventh K-pop girl group in history to have a million-selling album, as well as the youngest and fastest group to do so.

Of these million albums, around 720,000 are physical albums sold while nearly 290,000 come from Weverse album sales. From the shipments of these CDs, physical albums, and platform records such as Weverse albums, Circle Chart excludes returns when calculating total sales.

On the day of its release, “OMG” nearly became a half million-selling album with over 480,000 copies sold. Within just its first day of sales, “OMG” smashed NewJeans’ previous first-week sales record of 311,271, set by their debut EP “NewJeans,” and recorded a grand total of 701,241 copies sold by the end of the week. Not only did this set a new personal best for the group, but “OMG” also became the girl group album with the fourth-highest first-week sales in Hanteo history, bested only by BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK,” aespa’s “Girls,” and IVE’s “After LIKE.”

For six weeks straight, NewJeans has been dominating various Circle Charts with “OMG,” “Ditto,” and their summer hit “Hype Boy.” On the latest charts, NewJeans impressively scored a quadruple crown after topping the album chart with “OMG” and taking over the top two spots on the digital chart, streaming chart, and global K-pop chart with “Ditto” and “OMG.”
