NewJeans' "Ditto" Becomes 1st Song In Melon History To Chart At No. 1 For 10 Consecutive Weeks

NewJeans has made history on Melon’s weekly chart!

For the week between February 20 and 26, it was announced on February 27 that NewJeans’ latest pre-release track “Ditto” had topped Melon’s weekly chart once again! Since its release on December 19, 2022, “Ditto” has not dropped from the No. 1 spot for 70 consecutive days (10 weeks).

With 10 straight weeks at No. 1, “Ditto” has made history on Melon, Korea’s largest music streaming service. This is the longest any song has consecutively remained at No. 1 on the chart since the service was established in November 2004. The only other song to have ranked at No. 1 on Melon for more than 10 weeks (though non-consecutively) is BTS’s “Dynamite.”

In the mid-2000s, the Korean music industry underwent a big change with physical album sales declining and chart performance becoming the new measure of success among the general public. Since then, Melon’s weekly chart has featured numerous top artists known for their widespread popularity, but none has ever protected the No. 1 spot for 10 straight weeks.

On top of remaining at No. 1 on Melon for 10 weeks, NewJeans’ “Ditto” has maintained the top spot for 10 weeks on Bugs too, also setting a record for that streaming platform. Not only is “Ditto” seeing tons of success, but both weekly charts have NewJeans’ latest title track “OMG” and summer hit “Hype Boy” in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots respectively. The latest charts now mark the sixth straight week that NewJeans has dominated the top three on both platforms. Despite being released over six months ago, NewJeans’ debut track “Attention” is also still No. 6 on both Melon and Bugs.

Earlier this week, NewJeans’ “OMG” tied BLACKPINK’s record for the second longest-charting song on Billboard’s Hot 100 by a female K-pop act after the song came in No. 89 for its sixth consecutive week on the chart.
