Key Hints That Make Ryeoun, Kang Hoon, And Jung Gun Joo Contenders To Be The Missing Crown Prince In "The Secret Romantic Guesthouse"
The secrets of Ryeoun, Kang Hoon, and Jung Gun Joo in “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” are growing more and more mysterious!
Based on the hit web novel of the same name, SBS’s “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” is a mystery romance drama about an unconventional boarding house and three students who stay there as lodgers. Shin Ye Eun stars as Yoon Dan Oh, the owner of boarding house Yihwawon, while Ryeoun, Kang Hoon, and Jung Gun Joo play three “flower scholars” who rent rooms—and are each hiding their own secrets.
In last week’s broadcast, Yoon Dan Oh began her search for the missing dethroned crown prince Lee Seol and was accompanied by Kang San (Ryeoun), Kim Si Yeol (Kang Hoon) and Jung Yoo Ha (Jung Gun Joo). But while on this journey, all three flower scholars began acting strangely, leaving viewers no choice but to put on their thinking caps and begin investigating themselves.
Based on hints from close observations of Kang San, Kim Si Yeol, and Jung Yoo Ha, here’s a breakdown of how each scholar is a contender to be the missing Lee Seol.
Kang San’s hints: wooden sword, bloody martial arts practice, and conversation with the chief eunuch
For viewers who strongly believe Kang San is the missing dethroned crown prince Lee Seol, his wooden sword is a big hint. Regarding why he always carries it around, Kang San explained, “I’m in the midst of finding a way to win without wounding [people].” This idea is in line with a comment made by a young Lee Seol eight years ago when he put an end to an attack by stating, “Please stop. I do not wish for any more blood.”
Some also think that Kang San practices his martial arts until his hands are bloody as a means to protect himself from the past. On top of this, Kang San once had an interesting conversation with the king’s chief eunuch (played by Lee Joon Hyuk) when they asked him, “Does Yoon Dan Oh have no idea? Who you are?!”
Kim Si Yeol’s hints: “Your Highness,” Yoon Dan Oh’s puppy, and drama’s poster
In Episode 4, a monk referred to Kim Si Yeol as “Your Highness,” raising questions about his status. Additionally, once all three scholars agreed to help Yoon Dan Oh find Lee Seol, Kim Si Yeol mysteriously commented, “Don’t you think it would be quite fun if Lee Seol was among us?”
After Yihwawon fell into danger, Kim Si Yeol gifted Yoon Dan Oh a puppy named Bok Shil, which coincidentally (or not) was the name of the puppy she had when Lee Seol was dethroned.
Another apparent hint is Kim Si Yeol’s position in the drama’s group poster. At the very top of the poster is Lee Chang (Hyun Woo), the king of Joseon. Right beneath him is Kim Si Yeol, leaving viewers curious about whether this proximity is a reflection of their relationship.
Jung Yoo Ha’s hints: the Samhan records, his refusal to take off his socks, his status as half-noble
Due to his refined personality, Jung Yoo Ha was quickly deemed most likely to be Lee Seol right from the first episode. What particularly roused viewers’ curiosity was also the contrast of his personality. Despite being endlessly soft and sweet in front of Yoon Dan Oh, Jung Yoo Ha had a stiff expression while in discussions with his fellow scholars.
When Yoon Dan Oh took the three flower scholars to a fabric store while searching for a specific mark Lee Seol has on his ankle, Jung Yoo Ha left everyone confused when he refused to take off his socks.
Jung Yoo Ha also raised anticipation with his proud smile after reorganizing the secret Samhan records to Korean and stating, “This will become a great strength in changing the world.” Additionally, Jung Yoo Ha was born half-noble, raising further questions about his background and upbringing.
The drama’s production team shared, “After it was revealed that the real goal of Jang Tae Hwa [Oh Man Seok], who was chasing down Lee Seol, is to be a watchman, Kang San is now in danger while Kim Si Yeol and Jung Yoo Ha continue to be shrouded in mystery. Please check out Episode 5 which airs on April 3 to find out who will unveil more hints about the real Lee Seol.”
Episode 5 of “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” aired on April 3 and Episode 6 will air on April 4 at 10 p.m. KST.
