Mnet Confirms Rehiring Of "Idol School" CP Kim Tae Eun
The chief producer (CP) of “Idol School” has returned to Mnet after being indicted for vote manipulation.
On April 10, Mnet revealed, “After serving time for manipulating vote rankings, PD [producing director] Kim Tae Eun received severe disciplinary action from our personnel committee. Since then, she has been working as a part of Mnet’s business department.”
In July 2017, Mnet launched “Idol School,” an audition program that led to the debut of fromis_9. Two years later, the show came under suspicion for manipulation of viewers’ votes. In July 2020, CP Kim Tae Eun and the planning and production team leader “Kim” were charged with obstruction of business and fraud.
In June 2021, “Idol School” CP Kim Tae Eun was sentenced to one year in prison, while the planning and production team leader “Kim” was sentenced a fine of 10 million won (approximately $8,965) for abetting the crime. After serving in prison for eight months, Kim Tae Eun was released in February 2022.
Early this month, it was also confirmed that PD Ahn Joon Young, who had been indicted on suspicions of manipulating votes of the “Produce 101″ series,” had returned to Mnet. Following news of Ahn Joon Young’s rehiring, CJ ENM officially apologized, but his future whereabouts were not mentioned.
