Jang Dong Yoon, Lee Joo Myung, Kim Bo Ra, And More Confirmed For New Sports Rom-Com Drama
Upcoming rom-com drama “Flowers Bloom Even in the Sand” (literal title) has unveiled its cast lineup!
“Flowers Bloom Even in the Sand” is a new rom-com drama about the story of youths struggling to bloom in their lives on a ssireum (traditional Korean wrestling sport) ring against the backdrop of Geosan, a city famous for ssireum.
Director Kim Jin Woo of the dramas “A Model Family,” “Queen of Mystery,” “Suits,” and “Love Alarm Season 2” as well as writer Won Yoo Jung have teamed up for the drama. In particular, “Flowers Bloom Even in the Sand” will be the first rom-com drama based on the theme of ssireum.
Jang Dong Yoon will transform into Kim Baek Doo, a Taebaek-class (flyweight) player of the Geosan County Office Ssireum Team, which is on the verge of disbanding. Born as the youngest son of a famous ssireum family, he was called a prodigy who would become a ssireum star early on with his outstanding skills. When he faces the crisis of retirement, he reunites with Oh Yoo Kyung, which becomes a turning point in his ssireum career.
Lee Joo Myung will take on the role of Oh Yoo Kyung, who stole the hearts of many coaches of various sport clubs with her innate athleticism and competitiveness. Oh Yoo Kyung comes down to the city of Geosan as the management team leader of the Geosan County Office’s Ssireum Team and meets Kim Baek Doo.
Yoon Jong Seok will play Min Hyun Wook, a preppy boy from a wealthy family who also comes down to Geosan around the same time as Oh Yoo Kyung. Min Hyun Wook adapts to life in Geosan surprisingly fast, mingling well with merchants in Geosan Market.
Kim Bo Ra will portray Joo Mi Ran, the owner of a mysterious cafe that suddenly appeared in Geosan one day.
Lee Jae Joon will play Kwak Jin Soo, a former ssireum player and Kim Baek Doo’s longtime rival. Kwak Jin Soo spent his childhood in the shadow of ssireum prodigy Kim Baek Doo, but he turns the table completely and becomes a Hanra-class (middleweight) ace.
Last but not least, Lee Joo Seung will take on the role of Kim Baek Doo’s best friend and police officer Cho Seok Hee working at the Geosan Police Station. Taking care of the chores in the peaceful city of Geosan, he is more affectionate toward his village than anyone else. He faces a dynamic change as Oh Yoo Kyung appears in the city along with a suspicious incident.
“Flowers Bloom Even in the Sand” is set to premiere in the second half of 2023. Stay tuned!
