Kim Tae Ri Is Both An Evil Spirit Taunting Humans And A Girl Trying To Drive An Evil Spirit Away In 'Revenant' Posters

Upcoming SBS drama “Revenant” has unveiled new character posters of Kim Tae Ri!

Written by famous scriptwriter Kim Eun Hee of “Sign,” “Ghost,” “Signal,” and “Kingdom,” “Revenant” is an occult mystery thriller in which a woman possessed by an evil spirit and a man who can see those evil spirits inside human bodies dig into the mysterious deaths surrounding five divine objects.

Kim Tae Ri stars as Goo San Young, a young woman in her twenties who works part-time during the day and studies for her civil service exam at night. She gets possessed by an evil spirit after receiving a keepsake belonging to her late father Goo Kang Mo (Jin Seon Kyu) that she should have never received.

The newly released character posters feature two versions of Goo San Young: one that is slightly colored by the demon’s shadow (the “San Young version”) and one that is completely possessed by the evil spirit (the “evil spirit version”), creating a contrasting atmosphere.

In the San Young version, she has an unexplainable wistfulness in her eyes, as if she’s begging for help. The poster also seems to depict her dejected feelings of assimilating to the evil spirit covering half of her face like a shadow while attempting to drive it away.

On the other hand, the evil spirit version features Goo San Young with a creepy sneer that seems to be mocking humans for being unable to defeat their demons despite their best efforts.

The production team shared, “In the drama ‘Revenant,’ ‘shadow’ is an important medium to recognize the evil spirit. We also utilized it in our character posters as an object to symbolize the evil spirit.”

“Revenant” has been garnering a lot of attention for being Kim Tae Ri’s first thriller drama. While talking about the portrayal of her character, Kim Tae Ri revealed, “I tried to focus on the differences in the situations of San Young and the evil spirit.” She added, “I consulted with the director and made differentiations in various details such as movements, actions, hands, and humming.”

At the center of San Young’s narrative is the keyword “youth.” Kim Tae Ri recalled, “The first thing the writer said to me was that the story that the viewer will encounter at the end is ‘youth.'” She continued, “I’ve seen youths in their 20s without dreams in many stories, but I had never seen such a character in a Korean occult series, so I was curious to see how it could be incorporated.”

As “Revenant,” which has folklore as its main subject, also stars Oh Jung Se as folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, the actress briefly talked about this field and why she chose to appear in the drama. Kim Tae Ri shared, “I was intrigued by the Korean occult genre, which I had not tried before, and I thought it would be interesting.” She added, “The field of folklore is really interesting and I think it will be meaningful work in the sense that it is a dying discipline.”

Finally, Kim Tae Ri advised viewers on how to watch “Revenant,” sharing, “Just clear your mind and let your eyes and ears be guided by the situation. And the best way to watch the drama is to solve the mystery together with San Young and Yeom Hae Sang.”

“Revenant” will premiere on June 23 at 10 p.m. KST. Watch a teaser here!
