Im Siwan Reported To Lead 'Squid Game 2' + Netflix And Agency Briefly Comment

Get ready for Season 2 of “Squid Game”!

On June 15, STARNEWS reported that Im Siwan will be starring as the lead of Season 2 of the Netflix original series “Squid Game.”

In response to the report, a source from Netflix Korea stated, “We ask for your understanding that we cannot currently confirm regarding the casting for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2.” A representative of Im Siwan’s agency PLUM A&C similarly stated, “It is information we cannot confirm. We ask for your understading.”

Previously in June last year, “Squid Game” director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong Hyuk shared a special message regarding the upcoming season. He confirmed that both Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will be reprising their respective roles as Gi Hun and the Front Man in Season 2—and he also teased that Gong Yoo (“the man in the suit with ddakji”) may be returning as well.

The production cost for “Squid Game 2” is reported to be 100 billion won (approximately $78 million), and after wrapping up casting, filming will reportedly begin in summer with the aim of releasing Season 2 in 2024.

“Squid Game” is about a mysterious survival game with a reward of 45.6 billion won (approximately $40 million) on the line. Lee Jung Jae and Park Hae Soo star as two childhood friends who wind up joining the game—only to learn that there is more at stake than just the prize money.

Recently, Im Siwan starred in the drama “Summer Strike” as well as the film “Unlocked,” and he is currently gearing up for the release of his film “Road to Boston.”
