IVE's MV Director Reveals Jang Won Young Went To ER And Got 7 Stitches After Being Injured During Shoot
The director of IVE’s music video for “I AM” has belatedly revealed that Jang Won Young was injured during filming.
Over three months after the music video’s release, director Son Seung Hee has shared that she was impressed and touched by Jang Won Young’s professionalism after injuring her arm during the shoot.
During a guest appearance on the MBC FM4U radio show “GOT7’s Youngjae’s Close Friend,” Son Seung Hee revealed for the first time that Jang Won Young had gone to the emergency room after suffering an injury while filming the music video for “I AM.”
“I’ve never officially spoken about this before,” said the director, “but Won Young actually injured her arm while dancing on set during filming. She had to get seven stitches. I’ve never been so shocked during filming before.”
“We had about two scenes left to shoot, and I assumed that she wouldn’t be able to film them, since she had been injured,” continued Son Seung Hee. “But even after going to the emergency room and getting stitches for two days in a row, she came back right away and pulled off all the scenes we had left.”
“What I found really cool and admirable was that she never let it show that she was in pain,” recalled the director. “Because if I had been her age, I think I would have been really obvious about it. If you watch the music video, you’ll see that the choreography for ‘I AM’ requires fully extending your arms a lot.”
“When I was monitoring [Jang Won Young’s] dancing on set during filming, it looked so painful that my own arm hurt just watching her,” she went on. “The choreography is so powerful already, and watching her pull it off after getting stitches, it made my heart ache. But while the cameras were rolling, she was so professional and didn’t let it show at all. And even after filming the dancing scenes, she’d carefully monitor her own performance and reshoot the parts that needed to be filmed again.”
“I think that’s what I remembered most after filming,” concluded Son Seung Hee. “A lot of the scenes [in the music video] that people said were especially cool were scenes that wouldn’t even have been in the music video if Won Young hadn’t pushed through with filming after getting injured.”
