In the last broadcast, the two murder suspects in the three “Achilles tendon amputation serial murders” had viewers putting their deductive skills to use. At the end of the second episode, Oh Jin Sung’s brother Oh Jin Woo became a suspect in the murder case after he was revealed to have a fetish for the ankles of pretty women.
With many questions still unanswered, here are three points about whether Oh Jin Woo is the real culprit.
The alibi of the first murder suspect
At the beginning of the investigation, the prime suspect in the serial murder case was not Oh Jin Woo but dentist Bae Min Kyu (Jung Sang Hoon), the first victim’s husband. However, Bae Min Kyu managed to get out of the situation by submitting a video recording of his girlfriend he took in a club room on the day of the first murder and a statement that he was attending a dental society seminar on the day of the second murder.
In addition, it was revealed that a car belonging to Bae Min Kyu was in the town of Woojin on the day the third murder took place in Woojin city, but his alibi of appearing on a medical live broadcast during that time complicated the investigation.
There are still some suspicions about Bae Min Kyu, such as how his congressman father has his back, his inability to remember who he lent his car to, and the constant changes in the statements of his alibi witnesses.
Photos of women’s ankles
Cha Young Woon (Kwon Yool) noted the commonality of the serial murders and speculated that the killer may have an ankle fetish. However, in the second episode, Oh Jin Woo was found to have secretly taken pictures of women’s ankles.
Additionally, Oh Jin Woo attempted to destroy evidence by deleting the data on his camera and secretly burning the ankle photos, piquing viewers’ curiosity about what lies behind his innocent face. Viewers can’t help but wonder if Oh Jin Woo really committed the three murders, and if not, why did he have the photos of women’s ankles?
Oh Jin Woo’s whereabouts on the day of the murder
Another reason to suspect Oh Jin Woo is that he was present at the scene of all three murders—most especially, the fact that Oh Jin Woo, who lives in the city of Woojin, visited Seoul on the day of the murder and was somehow at the scene of the crime.
However, Oh Jin Woo maintains his innocence, saying that he came to Seoul to meet a person he met on an internet cafe nicknamed “Lemon Tree,” raising questions about whether Lemon Tree, whom Oh Jin Woo was supposed to meet on the day of the incident, is a real person, and if so, what their identity is.
“Longing for You” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. KST.
