Melon Announces Muted Streams Will No Longer Count Towards Its Charts

Melon, Korea’s largest music streaming service, will no longer be counting muted streams.

On August 25, Melon officially announced that starting on October 1 at midnight KST, music streams with the volume set to zero will no longer count towards its charts.

According to Melon, the change will affect its Top 100, Hot 100, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly charts.

Meanwhile, Circle Chart (formerly known as Gaon Chart) also announced on August 22 that it planned to move to a new system that would exclude muted streams from its data by the end of the year.
