Soompi & Viki Staff Talk: Which K-Drama Superpower Would You Like To Have?
With an endless rush of fantasy dramas with characters who possess various powers these days, we discuss K-drama superpowers in this edition of Soompi & Viki Staff Talk. Some of our staff members share which superpower or a special ability from a K-drama we would like to have!
Check out our picks:
Somni: “My Lovely Liar”
If I could have a supernatural ability, I want to be able to detect people’s lies like Mok Sol Hee (Kim So Hyun) in “My Lovely Liar.” I would like to use this ability to support police on mysterious cases and make villains get their comeuppance. I will probably choose not to use it on or for anyone around me for the sake of maintaining relationships because this ability can tell if someone is lying or telling the truth, but it does not tell the reason behind their lies. Regardless, I believe this superpower can be very useful for making the world a better place if it’s used in critical situations.

Ginny: “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”
If I were granted the opportunity to possess a superpower from a K-drama, I would choose the ability to have superhuman strength as possessed by Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.” Superhuman strength would be invaluable in rescuing people from dangerous situations. Like how Do Bong Soon helps others from being endangered, I would be able to save others also, and emergency responders would greatly benefit from this ability. Do Bong Soon tries not to use her superpower but does use it carefully to do good when necessary, and it would be interesting to help others with strength like she does!

Winnie: “Beauty Inside”
The superpower I am open to trying would be the power to become someone different every day, which is what happens to Han Se Kye (Seo Hyun Jin) in “Beauty Inside.” Although I am not sure if this should be called a superpower or curse since she cannot control who she becomes, I think it could be a very interesting experience to live in different people’s lives and still remain who I truly am inside. This drama is actually a remake of the film “The Beauty Inside,” in which the male lead Kim Woo Jin is the one who constantly transforms, being played by various actors including Park Seo Joon, Lee Dong Wook, Lee Jin Wook, Yoo Yeon Seok, Park Shin Hye, Seo Kang Joon, and more!

Sala: “While You Were Sleeping”
When imagining having a supernatural ability from a K-drama, “While You Were Sleeping” comes to mind because of how the characters learn to make the most of their abilities. “While You Were Sleeping” follows the story of field reporter Nam Hong Joo (Suzy) who has the ability to see events from the future before they occur, but she has been powerless to stop the events from happening until Jung Jae Chan (Lee Jong Suk) enters her life. Although Nam Hong Joo’s ability is shown to be both a burden and a blessing, it would be amazing to have the power to receive a warning before danger happens—especially if it means being able to help others like this drama’s leads.

Yeon: “Tomorrow With You”
The ability I would be interested in having is that of Yoo So Joon (Lee Je Hoon) in “Tomorrow With You.” In “Tomorrow With You,” Yoo So Joon travels through time by riding a subway, trying to prevent an unfortunate event he sees in the future. Although it would be great to prevent such an event from happening, the most intriguing part of his ability for me was how he brings back products from the future such as technological inventions or new food and clothing. He also brings his wife Song Ma Rin (Shin Min Ah) whatever she wants by traveling to different seasons, such as raspberries and tulips even when the weather is cold. It would be such a fun power to have!
