Joo Won And Kwon Nara Dish On Close Chemistry Of 'The Midnight Studio' Cast, Atmosphere On Set, And More

Joo Won and Kwon Nara of the upcoming ENA drama “The Midnight Studio” have participated in a stunning pictorial with Allure Korea!

“The Midnight Studio” tells the thrilling yet mysterious story about a prickly photographer Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won), who runs a professional photo studio that only exists for the deceased, and passionate lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara) as they cross life and death with the night guests.

In the interview that followed the photo shoot, Joo Won and Kwon Nara were each asked questions about “The Midnight Studio” as well as their personal stories and thoughts on various topics related to the drama.

When asked what the atmosphere on set was like, Joo Won replied, “I like this drama because it contains comedy, cuteness, and sadness. It was the same on set. I feel like this is the first time in 10 years that I’ve been [filming] in an atmosphere this heartwarming. In particular, the four of us [with Kwon Nara, Yoo In Soo, and Eum Moon Suk] eat together and make video calls every day. Look, Eum Moon Suk is calling me now, you see? (laughs)”

According to the drama’s character description, Seo Ki Joo is a lone photographer whose family is bound by contract to take pictures of the dead for generations. However, he is cursed to live only until the age of 35. When asked if he ever thought about death while filming for the drama, Joo Won commented, “At first, I couldn’t understand what it feels like to die at the age of 35. But I felt so strange when I only had a few days left to live [in the drama]. I thought, ‘I’m really going to die?'”

When asked about his decision to enroll in graduate school, Joo Won said, “I had a dream of becoming a professor. I couldn’t graduate because I was busy filming. Still, I want to try to someday.” He added, “Since I majored in theater and film in high school and university, I wanted to share what I felt with others.”

Kwon Nara’s interview kicked off with the lighthearted question, “Did you know that when you search for ‘The Midnight Studio’ (pronounced the same as ‘Sexy/Naughty Studio’ in Korean), you are asked to verify that you are an adult?” Kwon Nara laughed to the question and replied, “When I told people that the title is ‘The Midnight Studio,’ everyone seemed very amused. When I explain to them that it means a photo studio that open only at night, they go, ‘Oh, is that what it means?'”

Both Kwon Nara and Joo Won spent their childhood in the same neighborhood of Bundang, Seoul. Regarding the relationship between the four lead actors, Kwon Nara shared, “We always eat together and video call each other. The four of us—Yoo In Soo, Eum Moon Suk, Joo Won, and me—are the people who usually gather at the photo studio. This is my first time being this close with fellow actors. It’s so nice to talk to each other a lot and work on our chemistry together.”

When asked if she ever imagined visiting the Midnight Studio as a ghost client, Kwon Nara said, “I tend to imagine situations like these often. If I were to die wrongfully, I would probably want to see my family and tell them what happened. This project exactly tells that kind of story.”

Kwon Nara added, “If I die, who would I want to see the most? If it was me from awhile back, it would have been my family, but now it’s my puppy. I think I’ll miss my dog Kwon Hodoo, whom I live with, the most.”

“The Midnight Studio” is set to premiere on March 11 at 10 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
