Lee Sung Kyung Reported For Korean Production Of Musical "Aladdin" + YG Briefly Comments
Actress Lee Sung Kyung may be starring in a musical!
On July 9, a media outlet reported that actress Lee Sung Kyung had been cast in the role of Princess Jasmine in the musical “Aladdin,” which is set to premiere in the second half of this year.
In response to the report, YG Entertainment commented, “Nothing has been confirmed yet regarding the casting.”
Featuring bold adventures, classic entertainment, a timeless love story, and true friendship, “Aladdin” follows Aladdin’s journey in the mystical kingdom of Agrabah. It is based on Disney’s animated film “Aladdin.”
“Aladdin” will be performed in two cities, Seoul and Busan. It opens at Charlotte Theater in Seoul on November 22 this year and runs until June 22, 2025, and in Busan, it opens at Dream Theater in July 2025.
As “Aladdin” is a Broadway hit, there is high anticipation from fans both domestically and internationally for its premiere. Only three productions, including “The Lion King,” “Wicked,” and “Hamilton,” have outperformed “Aladdin” in box office since its premiere a decade ago.
Actress Lee Sung Kyung has shown off her singing skills on “The King of Mask Singer” and various YouTube videos. She also released a digital single titled “Eat Sleep Live Repeat” in 2023. Her love for “Aladdin” is well-known as she sang “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” on various occasions.
Lee Sung Kyung debuted as a model through the 2008 SBS Super Model Contest and started acting with the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love” in 2014. Since then, she has appeared in various dramas such as “Flower of the Queen,” “Cheese in the Trap,” “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo,” “About Time,” and the film “Broker.”
