From Colorful Highlighter To Super Bright Blush, Here Are Summer's Cool Makeup Trends In K-Pop
It feels like trends are changing faster than we can even keep up with these days! While it can be confusing at times, it also means that we get to see lots of different and creative visuals from our favorite K-pop idols. Whether you’re a fan of these makeup styles or not, you have to admire the artistry behind it. Plus, you never know—try it yourself, and you might just find a new favorite makeup routine!
1. Colorful highlighters
From pinks to blues to purples, ultra-reflective shiny highlighters in fun colors are totally in. Some stars are using them as blush toppers to give their cheeks that extra healthy glow, while others like aespa’s Giselle are getting even more creative! Highlighting the under eye area and over the bridge of the nose brings tons of light to the face and lends the look a unique edge.
2. Doll lashes
Named for the porcelain doll-like effect that it gives the eyes, doll lashes are clumped together in neat lines to make the lashes super defined and stand out. While clumps aren’t always desirable when it comes to mascara, Billlie’s Tsuki proves that it can be super chic! The key is to make sure that the base of the lashes are pressed together while the ends stay neat.
3. Super bright blush
Blush-focused looks have been trending for a while, but it seems like the style isn’t going anywhere this summer! Red Velvet’s Yeri proves that flushed cheeks are always pretty, and the watercolor-like blend of colors keeps the bright pink from looking too unnatural. Make sure to choose a blush that compliments your undertone to ensure that this trend has you looking your best!
4. Smokey eyes
While light, understated eye makeup seems to be a mainstay of Korean beauty, Yuqi from (G)I-DLE is showcasing just how stunning a smokey eye can be. Even with narrow double lids, some dark liner and smokey shadow enhance the eye without making it look too closed-off. Yuqi added a highlight at the inner corner to keep everything from getting too heavy or overbearing for her eye shape.
5. Nude lips
Known as the MLBB (“my lips but better”) in Korea, these soft nude shades are having a serious moment in K-pop. While brighter lip colors tend to pop onstage, Danielle from NewJeans is proving that a light, pinky nude can be equally as gorgeous. It also makes it easier to overline the lips without it getting too obvious—a great tip if you find that overlining can look a little much!
6. Decorative stick-ons
From stickers to rhinestones, idols are using tons of different enhancements in cool and creative patterns to create interesting looks. Aisha from EVERGLOW uses her stick-ons right on the bridge of her nose for a look that’s super unique and draws attention right to her face. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different stick-ons to find something you like!
