aespa Becomes 1st K-Pop Girl Group In Billboard 200 History To Land 5 Albums In Top 40
aespa has made Billboard history with their latest album!
Although aespa’s first full-length album “Armageddon” was originally released in Korea and on digital platforms back in May, the album had a delayed CD release in the United States—meaning that “Armageddon” was only physically released stateside on July 5, though its songs have been available for download and streaming in the United States since May. As a result, the album’s debut on the U.S. album charts comes over a month after its initial release.
For the week ending on July 20, “Armageddon” debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard 200, making it their fifth consecutive album to enter the chart after “Savage,” “Girls,” “MY WORLD,” and “Drama.”
aespa is now the first K-pop girl group in history to score five top 40 albums on the Billboard 200—a feat that is all the more impressive considering they pulled it off with their first five albums.
“Armageddon” also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums chart this week, in addition to sweeping the No. 2 spot on the Top Album Sales chart and Top Current Album Sales chart—meaning it was the second best-selling album of the week in the United States, bested only by Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Additionally, aespa re-entered Billboard’s Artist 100 at No. 17, marking their 12th non-consecutive week on the chart.
Meanwhile, several of aespa’s songs continued to perform well on Billboard’s global charts this week. aespa’s hit pre-release single “Supernova” stayed strong at No. 23 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 41 on the Global 200 in its ninth week on both charts, while their title track “Armageddon” ranked No. 48 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 84 on the Global 200 in its seventh week. Finally, the group’s 2023 hit “Drama” spent its 27th week on the Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 195.
Congratulations to aespa on their exciting achievement!
