BTS, ILLIT, aespa, And Stray Kids Earn Diamond, Platinum, And Gold Certifications For Streaming In Japan

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced its latest batch of official certifications!

In 2020, the RIAJ implemented a new certification system for online streaming of songs, as an addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. According to the new system, songs are certified silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, platinum at 100 million streams, and diamond at 500 million streams.

As a group, BTS earned three separate RIAJ certifications for streaming this month. Their smash hit “Butter” received an official diamond certification after surpassing 500 million streams in Japan, making them the first foreign artist in RIAJ history to have more than one single certified diamond. (Back in 2022, the group became the first foreign artist ever to earn a RIAJ diamond certification with their hit single “Dynamite.”)

BTS also went gold with two B-sides—“Blue & Grey” and “Run BTS”—that surpassed 50 million streams each.

Additionally, BTS’s Jungkook earned an official gold certification for his hit solo single “3D” (featuring Jack Harlow), which also reached 50 million streams in Japan.

Meanwhile, ILLIT received their first-ever RIAJ platinum certification after their debut song “Magnetic” surpassed 100 million streams.

aespa earned no less than three separate gold certifications this month: their hit songs “Drama,” “Spicy,” and “Dreams Come True” were all certified gold after reaching 50 million streams each.

Finally, Stray Kids went gold with their 2020 hit “God’s Menu,” which also surpassed 50 million streams in Japan.

Congratulations to all of the artists!
