Hyeri, Park Se Wan, Jo Aram, And More Revive '90s Era In Upcoming Youth Film "Victory"

The upcoming movie “Victory” has released new stills showcasing the cast with nostalgic items and fashion!

Directed by Park Beom Soo, “Victory” is a film about youth starring Hyeri, Park Se Wan, Lee Jung Ha, Jo Aram, and more. The film tells the story of Geoje Commercial High School’s cheerleading team Millennium Girls, where eight team members with unique personalities are gathered. Set against the backdrop of 1999, “Victory” follows passionate best friends Pil Sun (Hyeri) and Mi Na (Park Se Wan) as they form a cheerleading team in order to be able to dance.

The movie showcases various ’90s items that will delight viewers who remember the era and intrigue those who don’t. Highlights include cassette tapes with popular ’90s music, camcorders, bulky PC monitors, flip phones, Tamagotchis—virtual pet simulation games—and personalized diaries. These nostalgic touches add an extra layer of fun to the film.

The Y2K aesthetic trend has revived ’90s items, making Y2K a symbol of style and uniqueness. Director Park Beom Soo said that 1999, the film’s setting, was a time when “different communication tools and media coexisted, and music and culture thrived.”

Art director Lee Bong Hwan focused on authentically capturing the 1999 vibe. Every detail, even the smallest props, was chosen to reflect the era. This careful attention to detail helped “Victory” capture the true Y2K aesthetic feel.

The film not only features authentic ’90s props but also captures the era’s distinct fashion and hairstyles. Pil Sun sports a curly perm, Chi Hyung (Lee Jung Ha) has a tousled look, and oversized tops and pants reflect the unique style of ’90s high school fashion.

Hyeri, who plays Pil Sun, said, “The film has many kitschy and cute details. These small touches add to the charm of ‘Victory,'” highlighting the fun in noticing these subtle elements.

Park Se Wan, who plays Mi Na, proposed using glue to pin down her bangs to authentically recreate the look of a 1999 high school student. She highlighted the film’s unique charm, saying, “‘Victory’ stands out with its youthful energy, refreshing vibe, and dance and emotions that bring back 1999. It’s the perfect movie for anyone looking to relive ’90s nostalgia and take a brief time-travel journey.”

“Victory” authentically captures the end-of-century mood and atmosphere, promising to stir nostalgia while charming audiences with its unique and distinctive appeal.
