4 Memorable Moments In The Final Episodes Of “My Sweet Mobster”

The end has come, and as much it’d be nice to have “My Sweet Mobster” go on forever, it’s time to say goodbye to Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo), Go Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa), and the whole Thirsty Deer family. This romantic comedy brought us one of the most charismatic male leads, one of the most adorable female leads, and some of the most hilarious secondary characters in a long while. Though the plot at times was somewhat redundant and dragged certain topics for way too long, the overall feeling of the show is quite fulfilling with a lot of good memories. To bid a proper goodbye to this K-drama, here are the most impressive moments from its final episodes.

Warning: spoilers from episodes 15-16 ahead!

1. Go Eun Ha maturely supporting Seo Ji Hwan

Something admirable about this K-drama is without a doubt Go Eun Ha’s character. Although some may find her as kind of meek, she has proved to be stronger and more resilient than most believed. This is truly noticeable in these last episodes as she bravely embraces Seo Ji Hwan despite the fact that she is also scared of the threat of both Go Yang Hee (Im Chul Soo) and Ji Hwan’s father. She understands that the danger is real, even more after being almost kidnaped by Go Yang Hee, but she doesn’t back down and faces Ji Hwan after he tries to push her away in order to keep her safe. By doing this, she makes her stance of not letting him abandon her for her safety, since the only person who can make her feel secure is actually Seo Ji Hwan.

However, she also understands Ji Hwan’s heart, his own fears, and the concerns that plague his mind, so she puts on a brave face and accepts to wait for him until the moment is right for them to be together. And although she can’t be by his side (she even has to move out briefly from his house), she does everything in her power to help him overcome the difficulties in his life. One of those is the crisis in his company after his father forces his way into it. She puts into action her rising popularity as a kids’ content creator to promote the Thirsty Deer products, creating a viral trend with the help of none other than Kang Ye Na (Song Seo Rin), thus helping the company to get out of the crisis momentarily.

2. Seo Ji Hwan risking his life protecting his father

One of the most impactful moments in these episodes was seeing Ji Hwan being hurt by Go Yang Hee. Though many viewers had already foreseen that he would get injured to the point of risking his life, nobody could have predicted that he would do it in order to protect his father. Ji Hwan might be one of the most selfless and kindest male leads to ever exist. Not only does he go to find evidence to help Jang Hyun Woo (Kwon Yool) to put his father behind bars once again, but when he sees that Gwak Jae Soo (Yang Hyun Min) is being held hostage, he accepts to be almost beaten to death in order to rescue him. Even more, he doesn’t fight back at all, but when he sees that his father is in danger, he puts himself between him and Yang Hee, receiving a mortal wound.

Faithful to his name as a sweet mobster, as Ji Hwan doesn’t wish to go back to his old life, he is willing to give his everything into it. And at the end, he even risks his well-being to protect the man who virtually stole his chance to have a normal life in order to put an end to their wretched relationship. The most tear-jerking part of all this is when he starts to agonize and the only thing he can think of is Eun Ha saying that she will wait for him. If this were another type of drama, that sort of scene would be hinting to a sad ending, but since this is a rom-com and not a melodrama, the help arrives just in time to save his life.

3. Everybody waiting for Seo Ji Hwan’s recovery

Since the happy ending can’t arrive just as easily for anybody, Ji Hwan is left in a coma after the terrible attack, leaving his Thirsty Deer family, Eun Ha, and everyone around him disheartened, wondering whether he will stay in that state forever. Luckily, it doesn’t take long before he is able to wake up, bringing back the humor into the drama amidst the whole anguish that was happening. With a very emotional reunion between Ji Hwan and Eun Ha, they’re ready to leave the pain and distress behind and start their future together.

With Ji Hwan’s recovery, the few loose ends that were left are also resolved as his father admits to all his crimes after he knows his son is out of danger. Of course, this isn’t enough to redeem all the suffering he’s caused Ji Hwan, but it does give closure for them when they are able to cut off all ties as father and son. After all, Ji Hwan has a true family with the Thirsty Deer men, Go Eun Ha, and all the people he has on his side now.

4. Seo Ji Hwan and Go Eun Ha living happily with their family

And so it ends, and the only thing left for Eun Ha and Ji Hwan to do is seal their love with the promise of a very happy future together, alongside their Thirsty Deer family, which gets even bigger by the addition of Joo Il Yeong (Kim Hyun Jin) and Gu Mi Ho’s (Moon Ji In’s) adorable baby girl. Though we don’t get to see their weddings, we do get a beautiful proposal where Ji Hwan pours his heart out to Eun Ha, thanking her for making him strive to be a better person.

This drama depicted the value of giving second chances in life to those who truly seek redemption for past mistakes. There was also the worth of those childhood friends who play with you and give you reasons to smile even in the worst of times and how a true pure heart can remain the same even if it faces a difficult life. And many more lessons were wrapped in a bunch of comedic moments that made every episode of “My Sweet Mobster” enjoyable, funny, and worth watching. Though it’s bittersweet to see the end, the time to play with Eun Ha, Ji Hwan, and all her friends, will stay with us for a long time!
