(G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon Addresses Alleged Conflict With Cube Entertainment Following Recent Performance

Update: Cube Confirms (G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon’s Contract Ends In November But Says Renewal Is Being Discussed

Original Article:

On August 3, (G)I-DLE held a concert in Seoul as part of their third world tour “iDOL.”

During her solo performance, leader Jeon Soyeon rapped about her contract ending in November and used explicit language, which led to concerns among fans about the group’s future.

In response, Cube Entertainment clarified, “The members’ contract renewals are scheduled for next year” and emphasized that “Jeon Soyeon’s lyrics were purely just part of the performance.” They added, “We are addressing this matter because we are concerned that inaccurate reports will be published and the company will suffer damages due to her sudden actions, which were not discussed with us beforehand.”

Despite Cube’s explanation, fans are struggling to reconcile the agency’s stance with the fact that the concert’s VCR displayed the message “Contract ends in November” during Jeon Soyeon’s solo act. This has led to questions about how such a message could be part of an unsanctioned performance.

On August 6, Jeon Soyeon took to her Instagram Stories to address this matter herself.

Her message reads as follows:

My first concern is always how to make people happy.
My second concern is how to make our team happier.
Sometimes, this leads to moments that seem too provocative or works that don’t receive positive reactions.
However, I do not lie, harm anyone, or intentionally engage in actions that would prick my conscience.

In this performance as well.
I didn’t write down any lies or hide anything from the company.
We rehearsed dozens of times in front of everyone and created the stage together.

Having worked together for over 10 years, I don’t have negative feelings toward the company based solely on the articles in the press.
Because words, if conveyed even slightly incorrectly, can alter the intended meaning.
However, this situation seems to be another reminder of our company’s inadequacy in responding to such situations.
I will also do my part so that we can grow together, and I hope that any uncomfortable feelings you may have, such as worry or hatred, can subside a little
I will try harder so you don’t ever have to worry, NEVERLAND ((G)I-DLE’s fan club). I’m always sorry, thank you, and I love you.
