5 Times We Angry Cried During Episodes 8-9 Of 'Good Partner'

The latest episodes of “Good Partner” have dropped, and they just might have been the most intense, tear-filled episodes of the season so far. Choi Sa Ra (Han Jae Yi), the infamous secretary who cheated with her boss’s husband, is increasingly going off the rails now that she’s been fired, immediately after being promoted to her dream job. She dropped yet another bomb last week, causing Cha Eun Kyung (Jang Nara) to lose her composure for the first time.

These five events from episodes 8 and 9, in particular, were filled with mixed emotions—first we were angry, then we were crying.

Warning: Spoilers up to episode 9!

1. Sa Ra’s pregnant

If you thought it couldn’t get more complicated than it already was, it could and it really did.

Sa Ra revealed this week that she is pregnant with Kim Ji Sang’s (Ji Seung Hyun’s) child. Least to say, Ji Sang wasn’t at all joyous about this, given his current custody battle with Eun Kyung for their daughter Kim Jae Hee (Yoo Na).

Knowing Sa Ra’s track record during this whole divorce case, it’s not surprising at all when she takes her pregnancy as an opportunity to gain the upper hand in the battle. With Ji Sang wanting to live with Jae Hee rather than start a new home and life with Sa Ra and her future child, Sa Ra takes matters into her own hands by underhandedly letting Jae Hee find out about her pregnancy.

She also has the audacity to meet with Jae Hee and request that she live with her mother so that Sa Ra’s child can have a father at home. At first, it seemed like Ji Sang was the main villain in this divorce, but the more Sa Ra reveals her true colors, the more it feels like she’s the real puppet master behind everything taking place. They’re certainly both at fault, but Ji Sang has yet to be as conniving and manipulative as Sa Ra has been.

2. Eun Kyung confronts Sa Ra

With all of Sa Ra’s scheming, Eun Kyung finally goes after her, and my god, it was a long time coming and very much deserved. You don’t mess with someone else’s kid. Especially Eun Kyung’s.

All hell breaks loose when Eun Kyung finds out that Sa Ra is pregnant and that her daughter already knows. She storms over to Sa Ra’s apartment in the pouring rain (of course, this dramatic of a scene requires rain). Filled with what must have been a combination of rage, pain, and heartbreak, she bangs on the door.

On top of all this, Eun Kyung is hit with another devastating blow: she learns that Jae Hee knew about the affair long before her. A flashback shows that Jae Hee saw her father and Sa Ra being intimate when her father thought Jae Hee was asleep. How confused and hurt Jae Hee must have been all this time, it’s terrible to even imagine.

3. A selfless father fights for his non-biological son

While Eun Kyung handles her divorce case, every episode also highlights one or two cases being handled by her and her team. A lot of times, the situations and outcomes of these cases relate to Eun Kyung’s own battle. This week, a divorce case involved a mother and father fighting for custody of their teenage son.

The team thought the case was an open-and-shut case because the son himself said he wanted to stay with his father, who has sincerely and diligently cared for him all his life. But things take a turn when the mother reveals information she withheld the entire time: her husband is not her son’s biological father. Though this technically would give her default rights to custody, the father is unwilling to let go of his son.

Though the attorneys urge him to request payment for all that he has done while being deceived by his wife, he is unwilling to do so because that would mean he would have to declare in front of everyone, including his son, that he is not his son’s father. And that’s just not true for him, no matter if he is blood-related or not.

The father doesn’t care about having to pay child support or anything money related. He just wants to remain his father’s son and not risk hurting his child with the truth. In the end, his earnest fight pays off, and he’s granted the right to see his son whenever he wishes. Finally a heartwarming win in the divorce department!

4. Eun Kyung opens up to Yu Ri’s mother

Eun Kyung has made an unexpected connection with Yu Ri’s mother Kim Kyung Suk (Seo Jung Yeon), who has unfortunately been through a similar divorce case as Eun Kyung. Eun Kyung actually defended Yu Ri’s father and his mistress against Kyung Suk during her divorce trial, so they certainly didn’t start with a positive relationship. Be that as it may, they’ve grown close as they got to better understand each other.

Kyung Suk finds Eun Kyung soaking wet and broken down after her confrontation with Sa Ra. She takes Eun Kyung to her home and comforts her as someone who has been in a similar place.

Anyone would be angry about all the ridiculous things Eun Kyung has had to deal with, but her having a shoulder to cry on and another mother to learn from calls for tears.

5. Sa Ra apologizes to Eun Kyung

At the end of episode 9, Sa Ra musters up the courage to return to the office where she was ousted as a cheater and fired. Probably the most unexpected turn in these episodes, besides Sa Ra being pregnant, is her wanting to apologize to Eun Kyung. This is because she hasn’t once shown any remorse or guilt for what she has done up until now.

This was instigated by Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun), who talked some sense into Sa Ra the night before, telling her to do the right thing and apologize if she has any hopes of being a good mother to her child. Sa Ra gets on her knees and gives what looks to be a sincere apology to Eun Kyung, but only time will tell if she is really willing to start amending her wrongs.
