1 Happy And 3 Frustrating Moments In Episodes 11-12 Of "Bad Memory Eraser"
Like most times in life, people have to face some ups and downs, something that is portrayed in the latest episodes of “Bad Memory Eraser.” Though we only have a couple of weeks left of this show, there are still so many unresolved things between Lee Kun (Kim Jae Joong) and Kyung Joo Yeon (Jin Se Yeon). Sadly, it looks like this K-drama will get even more entangled from here on before we can see a proper romance between the main leads. But not everything is bad as we can enjoy some laughs here and there amongst all the angst that reined in these episodes. Since hope is the last thing to die, let’s hope this couple will be able to catch their breath in the future.
Warning: spoilers from episodes 11-12 ahead!
HAPPY: Lee Kun and Kyung Joo Yeon spending time together
Let’s call this moment the calm before the storm. Right after sharing their first kiss, our goofy leads get to spend the night together in the house of Lee Kun’s grandmother. They not only enjoy a beautiful starry night in the countryside but also have the chance to open up their hearts to each other. We are somehow used to seeing the eccentric and cheeky side of Lee Kun, but it’s also refreshing to see that Kyung Joo Yeon can be just as extra.
The silliness they show in this short while proves how much they’ve grown to be comfortable around each other. It’s not something you can have overnight, especially when the people involved have been through a lot of trauma and struggles. That’s why this moment between them is so significant for those who have been rooting for them. If there’s ever a slow-burn romance in K-dramas, this is definitely one of them.
FRUSTRATING: Lee Shin trying to manipulate Kyung Joo Yeon
However, happiness is short-lived in these episodes. Everything starts to change the moment Lee Shin (Lee Jong Won) takes a more central part in the plot and not exactly in a good way. It was hard to imagine that rather than being a second male lead, he would become the antagonist in Lee Kun and Joo Yeon’s love story. Though some people say when it comes to love everything is valid, Lee Shin goes too far. He not only pursues Joo Yeon aggressively, to the point where he tries to win over her family, but he also manipulates her to push her so she will give up her feelings for his brother.
His character has been a complex one ever since the beginning. He shows that despite loving a person—in this case his brother—he isn’t as selfless as to take a step aside to see Lee Kun and Joo Yeon together. When he sees the opportunity, he even forcefully kisses Joo Yeon in front of Lee Kun, igniting a conflict between them. But the frustration doesn’t stop there, since, unfortunately, Joo Yeon can’t draw the line clearly and soon enough continues giving in to his machinations.
FRUSTRATING: Kyung Joo Yeon pushing Lee Kun away
The reality is that Joo Yeon can’t overcome the fact that she has been pretending to be Lee Kun’s first love. Even if she is willing to accept his feelings, the moment Lee Shin mentions that she isn’t the real one, she takes a step back again. Her going back and forth can make anyone frustrated, so it’s only natural that Lee Kun feels it even more so. And things get worse the moment she knows Jeon Se Yan (Yang Hye Ji) is his true first love. She suddenly sees herself as an obstacle between them, and so she sends Se Yan to take care of him when he falls ill.
As much as everyone tries to understand where Joo Yeon is coming from, her actions are too disappointing to continue making excuses for her. Admittedly, she gets played and manipulated easily—first by her ex-boyfriend and later by Lee Shin—but she’s shown she can also be pretty ruthless when she wants to. At first, she doesn’t hesitate to draw the line between her and Lee Kun, and later on, after she already has feelings for him, she still pushes him away despite the pain it causes him.
FRUSTRATING: Lee Shin preventing Lee Kun from finding out the truth
There’s been much confusion around what happened to Lee Kun on the day of his accident, but one thing is clear and that is that Lee Shin is the one behind it. There’s no other explanation for the fact that he goes around trying to hide whatever evidence there is that could reveal it, from the pictures the president of his agency has against him, to the mysterious witness that continues to follow him around.
But what’s more intriguing is that he even destroys the diary which contains all of Lee Kun’s memories. This makes us believe there’s much more behind his actions until now and that the guilt he feels toward his brother comes from a deeper place than for having taken his place as a professional tennis player. Hopefully, we will get all the answers to these questions and suspicions in the upcoming episodes of “Bad Memory Eraser”!
