Shin Hae Sun Names Working On 'Dear Hyeri' As Her Recent Joy, Shares Efforts To Differentiate Her Dual Roles, And More

Shin Hae Sun has shared her thoughts on her highly anticipated drama “Dear Hyeri”!

“Dear Hyeri” is a healing romance drama that revolves around Joo Eun Ho (Shin Hae Sun), an announcer who develops dissociative identity disorder following the disappearance of her younger sibling and her breakup with her longtime boyfriend Jung Hyun Oh (Lee Jin Uk).

Shin Hae Sun plays dual roles as Joo Eun Ho, a veteran announcer with zero presence, and Joo Hye Ri, a parking lot attendant. Lee Jin Uk stars as Jung Hyun Oh, a popular and well-liked announcer, while Kang Hoon plays the single, innocent announcer Kang Joo Yeon.

Shin Hae Sun shared her deep affection for the drama, saying, “After reading the script, I immediately thought, ‘I want to do this.’” She elaborated, “While it may sound cheesy, the happiest I’ve been recently was when I first read the script for ‘Dear Hyeri.’ I feel like I’m a mix of both Eun Ho and Hye Ri. Sometimes I don’t even realize when I’m happy, and other times, I find joy in the smallest things. This drama has personally reminded me once again that ‘happiness truly comes from within.’ From the moment I first received the script to every moment of filming, I was happy. I hope that those watching the drama will also be able to find their own happiness.”

Reflecting on the challenge of portraying two different characters, Shin Hae Sun shared, “I wanted Eun Ho to appear passionate yet dull, while Hye Ri should appear dull yet passionate. To highlight the contrast between the two, I made sure their looks—hair, makeup, costumes—and even their tone of voice and way of speaking were distinct.” She added, “To prepare for the announcer role, I received a lot of help from a professional announcer. Speaking like an announcer was harder than I thought, so I practiced by listening to their recordings and repeating them and rehearsed with their guidance.”

Shin Hae Sun also revealed her favorite line from the drama: “I hate Hyun Oh—because I can’t have him. Do you know how much you have to hate something you desperately want in order to give it up? That’s why I hate Hyun Oh so much.” She explained, “This line really conveys how deeply Eun Ho loves Hyun Oh. As someone who portrayed Eun Ho, this line was the one that helped me understand all of Eun Ho’s emotions.”

She further shared her thoughts on the contrasting romances in the drama, with Eun Ho and Hyun Oh showing the dynamic of a couple who break up after a long-term relationship, and Hye Ri and Joo Yeon portraying the straightforwardness of first love. She remarked, “Eun Ho and Hyun Oh are former lovers who break up after dating for a long time, so they know each other well, but there’s also an unfamiliar and distant tension between them and they’re hostile to each other. On the other hand, Hye Ri and Joo Yeon, though strangers, share an unexpected warmth and a sense of familiarity.” She added, “Even the ways Hyun Oh and Joo Yeon approach Eun Ho and Hye Ri are different.”

About the exceptional atmosphere on set, Shin Hae Sun remarked, “The filming environment was indescribably perfect, and it was an incredibly happy time. Every actor and staff member gave more than 120 percent in their roles, so it was sad when filming ended.” She added, “Jin Uk, Hoon, Hye Joo, Sang Joon, Kyung Hwa, and Jeon Bae Soo, along with all the other actors, had such great chemistry, and it made the entire filming process so enjoyable. I would be thrilled if viewers could feel the chemistry between us as they watch the drama.”

“Dear Hyeri” is set to premiere on September 23 at 10 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki. Stay tuned!
