Lee Jin Uk Dishes On His Character In "Dear Hyeri," Chemistry With Shin Hae Sun, And More

Lee Jin Uk has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Dear Hyeri”!

“Dear Hyeri” is a healing romance drama that revolves around Joo Eun Ho (Shin Hae Sun), an announcer who develops dissociative identity disorder following the disappearance of her younger sibling and her breakup with her longtime boyfriend Jung Hyun Oh (Lee Jin Uk).

In his role as Jung Hyun Oh, Lee Jin Uk plays a talented and charming announcer. Along with Shin Hae Sun, he will portray the chemistry of a former couple who breaks up after an eight-year relationship.

Ahead of the premiere of “Dear Hyeri,” Lee Jin Uk gave a candid interview.

He explained why he chose the show, saying, “I was eager to join after learning that actress Shin Hae Sun, whom I’ve wanted to work with, was cast. I also looked forward to reuniting with director Jung Ji Hyun, with whom I previously worked on the drama ‘Nine: Nine Times Time Travel.’”

He continued, “The script was intriguing. The complex relationships between the characters felt new and fresh,” sharing his excitement about the script. Lee Jin Uk mentioned that he spoke with announcers to learn about their experiences and gather tips for his role. He teased that viewers can look forward to seeing a range of traits from his character, announcer Jung Hyun Oh.

Lee Jin Uk highlighted his strong acting chemistry with Shin Hae Sun. “It was wonderful. I already knew she was a great actress, but I was even more impressed while filming,” he said. Lee Jin Uk added that he put a lot of effort into capturing the connection between Eun Ho and Hyun Oh. “I spent a lot of time discussing with Shin Hae Sun how to best portray their years together and their story. We often joked and talked, developing our characters together. I’m excited to see how the comfort of a long-term couple will come across,” he said, hinting at the depth of the characters Hyun Oh and Eun Ho.

The actor said that he feels a strong connection with his character. Lee Jin Uk said, “Jung Hyun Oh is a character I relate to quite well.” He added, “I understood the breakup with Eun Ho because I felt, ‘I might have done the same thing.’”

“Dear Hyeri” is a drama that encourages viewers to think about happiness. When asked about his happiest moments, Lee Jin Uk said, “I feel happiest when I’m with the people I love. I’ve come to appreciate how precious and grateful it is to see them whenever I can.”

Lastly, Lee Jin Uk said, “The standout acting of Shin Hae Sun, who plays the main characters Eun Ho and Hye Ri, is the highlight of the show.” He added, “The past moments of love and separation between Eun Ho and Hyun Oh will resonate with anyone who has experienced love.” He concluded, “I hope ‘Dear Hyeri’ gives you a chance to reminisce about your own past experiences.”
