Kim Moo Yeol Confirmed To Lead Webtoon-Based Drama 'Get Schooled'

Kim Moo Yeol has officially been cast as the lead in the upcoming drama adaptation of “Get Schooled.”

On November 29, it was confirmed that Kim Moo Yeol will play Na Hwa Jin, an inspector for the Teacher’s Rights Protection Agency in the drama.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Get Schooled” is centered around the fictional Teacher’s Rights Protection Agency, a government body created to restore teacher authority.

Previously, Kim Nam Gil was revealed to have received an offer for the drama, but after many fans expressed concerns about the webtoon’s portrayal of misogyny, racism, and physical violence, he announced his decision not to star in the drama.

The series will be directed by Hong Jong Chan, known for Netflix’s “Mr. Plankton” and “Juvenile Justice,” while the script is penned by Lee Nam Kyu of Netflix’s “Daily Dose of Sunshine” and JTBC’s “The Light in Your Eyes.”

Scriptwriter Lee Nam Kyu shared, “I worked on the drama with the sincere wish that it will become a small step toward addressing the issues in today’s education system and finding solutions for recovery.”

Director Hong Jong Chan also explained his motivation, “Witnessing the growing incidents in the education field over the years, I felt the need to tell a story about those the system fails to protect and those who exploit the system. ‘Get Schooled’ addresses an essential topic for our time, and everyone involved has worked with great responsibility and dedication to develop this drama.”

Director Hong Jong Chan also addressed concerns regarding certain controversial episodes from the webtoon, adding, “We are aware of the criticisms and concerns. With a strong sense of responsibility, we will do our utmost to approach the story with a refined perspective. We kindly ask that you look at ‘Get Schooled’ with warm eyes.”

Kim Moo Yeol revealed his reasons for joining the project, saying, “After reading the drama adaptation’s script, I felt it was a project that prompts people to reflect on the realities of today’s education and the discrimination and systemic injustices in it. My trust in Director Hong Jong Chan’s ability to handle challenging topics with conviction, as demonstrated in his previous work ‘Juvenile Justice,’ also played a significant role in my decision.”

“Get Schooled” is scheduled to begin filming in the first half of 2025, with its broadcasting schedule currently under discussion.
