Watch: Lee Hyun Wook And Cha Joo Young's Relationship Wobbles As They Gain Power In New "The Queen Who Crowns" Teaser
tvN’s upcoming drama “The Queen Who Crowns” has unveiled a new teaser video ahead of its premiere!
“The Queen Who Crowns” tells the story of the fiery life of Queen Wongyeong (Cha Joo Young), a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early days of the Joseon dynasty and made her husband, Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook), a king with whom she shared the power of the throne. Although she was described in historical records only as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min” without her full name, the drama will reimagine history from the perspective of Queen Wongyeong, who lived an independent life without losing herself in spite of devastating betrayals and harsh reality.
The newly released teaser starts by depicting Queen Wongyeong and Lee Bang Won marching side by side at a coronation ceremony. They also share moments of joyous dance and a passionate kiss, indicating how deeply in love they are as a married couple.
However, the tone of the video shifts as they gain power, with King Taejong telling Queen Wongyeong, “In this country, I’m the king, and you’re now my liege.” This cold statement hints at the king’s intention to strip her of her power, as demonstrated by Wongyeong’s shocked and hurt expression.
The teaser also introduces characters who further complicate the couple’s relationship. King Taejong summons Chae Ryeong (Lee Yi Dam), a queen’s maid, and Yeong Sil (Lee Si Ah), a concubine who bore the king’s child before he ascended to the throne, to his room. These developments drive a wedge between the once-loving couple. As the teaser concludes, Queen Wongyeong narrates, “You don’t seem like the person I’ve known for a long time.”
