Variety Shows Announce Broadcast Cancellations Following Plane Crash Tragedy

In the wake of the tragic Jeju Air plane crash on December 29, South Korea has entered a period of national mourning, prompting many variety shows to adjust their broadcast schedules.

tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block,” which was set to feature actress Song Hye Kyo as a guest on January 1, has announced its cancellation. The production team shared, “The episode originally scheduled to air on January 1 has been canceled. The show will return next week.” In its place, tvN will air the movie “Count.”

MBC’s “Radio Star,” which normally airs on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. KST, has also decided to cancel its broadcast for the day. Instead, the network will air the movie “Single in Seoul.”

SBS’s new boy group survival show “Universe League” has announced the cancellation of its January 3 broadcast.

KBS2 has postponed the live audience recordings for “The Seasons: Rainbow of Lee Young Ji” and “Gag Concert” in light of this week’s cancellations. Other programs, including “Music Bank,” “Fun-staurant,” “I Am a Singer,” and “Immortal Songs” will also take a break this week to honor the victims of the tragedy.

Despite the adjustments, a few variety shows will air as scheduled. KBS 2TV’s “The Return of Superman” will broadcast at 8:30 p.m. KST as scheduled. Similarly, SBS will broadcast “Kick a Goal” at 9:00 p.m. KST, followed by “I Am Solo” on SBS Plus at 10:30 p.m KST.

Once again, our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the crash.
