Soompi & Viki Staff Talk: What Was Your Favorite K-Drama Of 2024?

Welcome to a new edition of Soompi & Viki Staff Talk to ring in 2025! For this round, our staff members look back on the past year to share our favorite K-dramas of 2024.

Check out our picks below:

Somni: “Lovely Runner

“Lovely Runner” captivated my heart and mind, making it my favorite K-drama of 2024. The series masterfully blends romance, drama, and comedy, creating a narrative that is both engaging and emotionally resonant. The chemistry between the lead actors Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon is palpable, bringing their characters’ journey to life in a way that feels authentic and deeply moving. The storyline, which revolves around a girl named Im Sol (Kim Hye Yoon), a passionate fan devastated by the death of her favorite star Ryu Sun Jae (Byeon Woo Seok), who goes back in time to save him, is both unique and inspiring. The cinematography captures the beauty of Korea’s four seasons, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the emotional beats of the story. “Lovely Runner” is a standout series that is still filling up my mind long after the drama’s conclusion.

JJin: “Good Partner

“Good Partner” is my favorite drama of 2024. I’m not usually a fan of legal dramas, but this one completely changed my perspective. Each episode features a different divorce case, keeping things fresh and interesting. Along with that, the friendship between Cha Eun Kyung (Jang Nara) and Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun) was amazing, and their acting really drew me into the drama. My favorite storyline was about Cha Eun Kyung and her daughter. Watching their relationship evolve from a distant bond to true family was so heartwarming and emotional, making me tear up but also filling my heart with happiness. If you’re looking for a drama that’s both dramatic and heartwarming during the holidays, “Good Partner” is the perfect binge-watch!

Winnie: “Love in the Big City

“Love in the Big City” is undoubtedly my top pick for the best K-drama of 2024! What sets it apart is its unique and authentic approach to inclusion, particularly with its representation of queer stories. The series delves into the journey of the male lead Go Young (Nam Yoon Su) as he navigates his relationships with his past exes. Each episode of this show is helmed by a different director, highlighting each phase of Go Young’s relationships. This adds layers to the storytelling, making it compelling to see how his emotions and complexities evolve through his experiences with various partners. It is not a common type of K-drama, making “Love in the Big City” a standout project that is absolutely worth watching!

Sala: “Love Your Enemy

There were so many standout dramas in 2024 that it’s difficult to just pick one, but I’d have to say one underrated gem has to be “Love Your Enemy”—a romantic comedy in which “arch-nemeses” Seok Ji Won (Ju Ji Hoon) and Yoon Ji Won (Jung Yu Mi), whose families have been enemies for generations, reunite after 18 years. Some of the biggest highlights of the drama are definitely the young actors Hong Min Gi and Oh Ye Ju who portray Seok Ji Won and Yoon Ji Won in their high school years and seeing their adorable chemistry as well as the development of their characters’ relationship. As adults, Seok Ji Won and Yoon Ji Won showcase hilarious banter yet mature love, delivering a heart-fluttering romance that spans across many years, with the hurdles they overcome making their romance only that much sweeter. “Love Your Enemy” is definitely a must-watch 2024 K-drama and a great light-hearted rom-com to kick off the new year if you haven’t had a chance to tune in yet!

Yeon: “Family By Choice

My favorite 2024 K-drama would definitely be “Family By Choice,” a romance drama about Kim San Ha (Hwang In Youp), Yoon Ju Won (Jung Chaeyeon), and Kang Hae Jun (Bae Hyeon Seong) who grow up together as a family for 10 years before being separated and then reunite again as adults. It has heartwarming and tear jerking moments as it tells the emotional stories of a non-traditional family, which are brought to life with the phenomenal acting of the entire cast. However, there is also plenty of adorable romance to satisfy the rom-com lovers like me. “Family By Choice” is such a well-written drama with never a dull moment, and if you love the drama as much as I do, also check out the Chinese drama “Go Ahead” that it is adapted from!

Jinny: “Cinderella at 2AM

“Cinderella at 2AM” is my pick for the best K-drama of 2024! It follows Ha Yun Seo (Shin Hyun Been), a respected team leader at a big company. She has worked hard to build her life after leaving her family to escape her tough past. She is in a relationship with Seo Ju Won (Moon Sang Min), a younger colleague, and everything seems fine…until she finds out he is actually the son of the chaebol family that owns their company. Things get messy when Ju Won’s mother steps in and offers Yun Seo money to break up with him. Yun Seo, who doesn’t believe in fairytale romances, takes the deal and calls it quits, which is a twist on typical K-drama cliches that sets this story apart. But Ju Won isn’t giving up that easily—he is determined to prove their love is real and win her back. “Cinderella at 2AM” is a fresh take on modern romance that shouldn’t be missed!
