Hwang Minhyun Forms An Unlikely "Study Group" With Lee Jong Hyun, Shin Su Hyun, Yoon Sang Jung, And Gong Do Yu
TVING’s upcoming drama “Study Group” has given an in-depth look at its characters!
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “Study Group” is a high school action-comedy about Youn Ga Min (Hwang Minhyun), a student who dreams of excelling academically but is only gifted in fighting. At a high school notorious for being one of the worst in the world, he forms a study group and dives into the ruthless world of college entrance exams.
With Lee Han Kyeong (Han Ji Eun) at the lead, Youn Ga Min, Kim Se Hyun (Lee Jong Hyun), Lee Ji Woo (Shin Su Hyun), Choi Hee Won (Yoon Sang Jung), and Lee Joon (Gong Do Yu) make up a new study group.
The newly released stills capture the diverse characteristics of the study group members. Youn Ga Min’s eyes shines brightly as the study group he has been wanting for so long is formed, while his reliable supporter Lee Han Kyeong looks optimistic with anticipation.
Director Lee Jang Hoon praised Hwang Minhyun for being greatly in sync with his character Ga Min. The director remarked, “He has great understanding of the character and scene, and he is a great actor with a good sense for portraying that. He made Ga Min’s action scenes very charming.”
Regarding her character, Lee Han Kyeong shared, “Han Kyeong’s dream is becoming a teacher who can help the kids head toward a good direction.”
In the stills, Kim Se Hyun, the first study group member, wears a serious and intelligent gaze. Lee Ji Woo sports a cynical facial expression, while Choi Hee Won puts a shy smile, drawing contrast between the two characters. Lee Joon, who dreams of taking over Yusung Technical High School, unexpectedly also joins the study group after being charmed by Youn Ga Min’s fighting skills.
Lee Jong Hyun remarked that Se Hyun’s charm point is when he takes courage and overcomes his fears for the sake of his friends. The actor remarked, “He acts prickly and coarse to his friends, but he is a tsundere character who is happy for making friends.”
Shin Su Hyun plays Lee Ji Woo, who can’t stand injustice. Shin Su Hyun remarked, “She is a character who is cute in some ways and also down-to-earth, bright, bold, and refreshing.”
Yoon Sang Jung remarked, “Hee Won is a multi-dimensional character. She is a figure that changes after working together with friends with diverse personalities,” highlighting Hee Won’s quiet and quirky personality.
Regarding Lee Joon, Gong Do Yu shared, “He is very playful, and he wants to be good at fighting. He is a cool person who is willing to take on any danger if it is for the people he cares about since he is thoughtful and values his friends.”
Director Lee Jang Hoon further raised anticipation for the drama, revealing how long he held auditions in order to find the perfect study group members.
“Study Group” is set to premiere on January 23.
