“The Queen Who Crowns: Before Sunrise,” the prequel to the drama “The Queen Who Crowns,” has shared new stills!

“The Queen Who Crowns: Before Sunrise” is a romance drama that explores the fateful first meeting between Won Gyeong (Cha Joo Young) and Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook), two individuals who shared a dream before rising to the throne. The drama serves as a prequel to “The Queen Who Crowns,” which follows the fiery life of Queen Won Gyeong, a kingmaker who envisioned a new world in the early days of the Joseon dynasty and helped her husband secure the throne.

The newly released stills capture affectionate moments between Won Gyeong and Lee Bang Won. Won Gyeong, the daughter of Min Je—an influential figure among Goryeo’s 15 elite clans—and Lee Bang Won, a gifted scholar adept in both academics and martial arts, are brought together by destiny.

Their feelings for one another grow into a deep love, and amidst the turbulent upheaval of late Goryeo, they come to share a common cause. While the main series highlights their intense struggles and conflicts as a married couple, these stills provide a glimpse into the passionate bond that forms the foundation of their relationship.

Highlighting the importance of “The Queen Who Crowns: Before Sunrise” in enriching the narrative of the main series, the production team revealed that the prequel was developed alongside the main drama from the pre-production stage, with a plan to release it between the first part (Episodes 1–6) and the second part (Episodes 7–12) of “The Queen Who Crowns.”

They explained, “The first part [of ‘The Queen Who Crowns’] focuses on the conflict and love-hate dynamic between Won Gyeong and Lee Bang Won as a married couple, while the second part portrays the major historical events that follow. By releasing ‘The Queen Who Crowns: Before Sunrise,’ which captures their fateful love before ascending the throne, in between, we aim to enrich their story and enhance viewers’ immersion in the series.”

“The Queen Who Crowns: Before Sunrise” premieres on January 21 at 12 p.m. KST via TVING.
