Go Ara has shared more insights on her upcoming TVING drama “The Scandal of Chunhwa”!

“The Scandal of Chunhwa” is a historical romance drama that tells the story of Princess Hwa Ri (Go Ara) who, after experiencing the heartbreak of her first love, declares her intention to choose her future husband herself. Her groundbreaking decision throws the royal palace into turmoil and entangles her with two men: Choi Hwan (Jang Ryul), the city’s most notorious playboy, and Jang Won (SF9’s Chani), the city’s most eligible bachelor.

Go Ara stars as free-spirited Princess Hwa Ri who turns the city upside down with her audacious proclamation to pursue love freely before selecting her own husband. In an era where strict norms dictated the roles of men and women, Hwa Ri defies tradition with her “freedom of choice” mantra, carving her own path and intriguing audiences with her journey.

Marking her first OTT project with “The Scandal of Chunhwa,” Go Ara shared, “I was drawn to the variety of love stories presented by the different couples in this drama. I found Hwa Ri particularly captivating because [the character] allows me to explore [a wide range of emotions] from a young girl to a mature woman.”

About her character, Go Ara explained, “She’s a representative of modern, forward-thinking women. She’s a creative person who possesses a strong sense of self, speaks her mind, and refuses to accept oppression, injustice, and discrimination. I even found myself reflecting on how much I resonate with her and wondered if I might have been Hwa Ri had I lived in that era.”

As the drama highlights women’s autonomy in its historical setting, Go Ara emphasized Hwa Ri’s unique appeal: “She challenges what society deems obvious. Whether in the past or present, people of all ages love and live life in their own way. Through Hwa Ri’s perspective, viewers will realize that what seems obvious might not be so.”
