YoonA, Lee Chae Min, Kang Han Na, And More Confirmed For New Drama By "My Love From the Star" Director
tvN’s upcoming drama “The Tyrant’s Chef” (working title) has finalized its cast!
On January 24, tvN announced that Girls’ Generation’s YoonA, Lee Chae Min, Kang Han Na, and Choi Gwi Hwa were now officially confirmed to be starring in “The Tyrant’s Chef.”
Helmed by director Jang Tae Yoo of “My Love from the Star,” “Lovers of the Red Sky,” and “Knight Flower,” “The Tyrant’s Chef” is a fantasy romance drama about a chef who travels back in time to the past.
YoonA will star as Yeon Ji Young, a cheerful and determined chef who has been offered a job as the head chef of a Michelin 3-star restaurant in Paris. However, on the day she wins the most prestigious culinary competition in France, she suddenly finds herself traveling back in time to the Joseon era. There, she meets a king who is known as the worst of tyrants, and she winds up serving him fusion palace cuisine.
Lee Chae Min will star as Lee Heon, a despotic king who wields absolute power over Joseon. As a discerning gourmet, Lee Heon’s palate is so sensitive that he can even taste the differences in food resulting from changes in the weather. After accidentally crossing paths with Yeon Ji Young and tasting her food, he is so impressed by her cooking that he immediately brings her to live at the palace.
Kang Han Na will play Kang Mok Joo, an ambitious and talented concubine who is hiding an insatiable thirst for power. When Kang Mok Joo wants something, she will resort to any means necessary to get it—and her unending ambition may lead to a storm within the palace walls.
Choi Gwi Hwa will play the role of Prince Je San, who is King Lee Heon’s biggest rival and opponent. The cruel and ruthless Je San doesn’t hesitate to get rid of people that he doesn’t like, and though he has been living life as a pleasure-seeker ever since the death of the previous king, he is secretly waiting for an opportunity to dethrone Lee Heon and become king himself.
While “Squid Game 2” star Park Sung Hoon was originally cast in the role of Lee Heon, he left the cast earlier this month after becoming embroiled in controversy over a social media post.
“The Tyrant’s Chef” is currently scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2025.
