Based on Shim Yun Seo’s 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home,” MBC’s “Motel California” is a new romance drama about a woman named Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young), who was born and raised in a rural motel called Motel California. After escaping her hometown, she returns home after 12 years and winds up reconnecting with her first love and childhood friend Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo).
Spoilers
On the previous episode of “Motel California,” Kang Hee returned to her hometown and learned that Yeon Soo is getting married to Yoon Nan Woo (Choi Hee Jin), a fellow veterinarian at his clinic. This news caused her emotional turmoil, leading her to confront Yeon Soo tearfully, saying, “You’ve changed.”
In the newly released stills, Nan Woo, Yeon Soo’s fiancée, is seen warmly embracing Kang Hee, sparking curiosity about the emotional backdrop of their interaction. Nan Woo’s bright, carefree smile as she wraps her arms around Kang Hee conveys an innocent charm, making viewers wonder what led to this unexpected moment of closeness.
Kang Hee’s reaction, however, tells a different story. Having recently realized her lingering feelings for Yeon Soo, Kang Hee is conflicted by Nan Woo’s presence in Yeon Soo’s life. Despite her discomfort, she cannot bring herself to push the cheerful and affectionate Nan Woo away, revealing a more vulnerable side to her character. This complex dynamic raises the question: Will Kang Hee let go of her feelings for Yeon Soo? And will Nan Woo discover that Kang Hee is Yeon Soo’s unforgettable first love?
The next episode of “Motel California” airs on January 24 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
