Hyeri And Jung Soo Bin Discuss Their “Friendly Rivalry” Characters’ Intriguing Relationship And Express Admiration For Each Other
Hyeri and Jung Soo Bin have shared more insights into their characters’ complex relationship in “Friendly Rivalry”!
Based on a popular webtoon, “Friendly Rivalry” is a mystery thriller set at Chaehwa Girls’ High School, an elite institution for the top 1 percent in South Korea, where cutthroat academic competition takes place between the students. Jung Soo Bin stars as Woo Seul Gi, a transfer student who becomes entangled in her classmates’ hidden ambitions—and the secret behind the mysterious death of her father, a former college entrance exam question setter.
Hyeri plays Yoo Jae Yi, Chaehwa’s top-ranked student and a figure of admiration who seems to have it all. With nothing left to desire, her world takes an unexpected turn when her interest is piqued by the transfer student Woo Seul Gi.
The newly released stills capture an ambiguous tension between Jae Yi and Seul Gi. In the images, Jae Yi invites Seul Gi into her room, flashing an enigmatic smile that seems almost hypnotic. Seul Gi, drawn in by Jae Yi’s charm, looks completely entranced. The lingering question remains—what is Jae Yi’s true intention behind this invitation?
Ahead of the drama’s premiere, Hyeri and Jung Soo Bin shared their thoughts on their characters’ unique relationship. Hyeri spoke highly of Jung Soo Bin, saying, “This was my first time working with her, but I could already tell that she is a thoughtful and considerate person. Thanks to her, the character Seul Gi felt even more profound than how I initially perceived her in the script.”
Jung Soo Bin also expressed gratitude toward Hyeri, commenting, “I’m so thankful that Hyeri was cast as Jae Yi. There was a warmth and trust she brought to the set, which allowed me to fully immerse myself in the role. The way she portrayed Jae Yi as such a charismatic and compelling character made it easy for me to follow that energy and build Seul Gi’s responses naturally.”
When describing their characters’ dynamic, Hyeri teased, “Jae Yi and Seul Gi continuously clash, care for each other, and drift apart in an endless cycle. Because they have different ways of expressing concern and contrasting personalities, misunderstandings arise, and their timing is often off. All of these moments weave together to form a relationship that is difficult to define in just one word.”
“Friendly Rivalry” is set to premiere on February 10.
