The Tension Between Cha Joo Young And Lee Hyun Wook Intensifies In “The Queen Who Crowns”

tvN’s “The Queen Who Crowns” has released new stills ahead of its upcoming episode!

“The Queen Who Crowns” will tell the story of the fiery life of Queen Won Gyeong (Cha Joo Young), a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early days of the Joseon dynasty and helped her husband, Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook), a king with whom she shared the power of the throne. Although she was described in historical records only as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min” without her full name, the drama will reimagine history from the perspective of Queen Won Gyeong, who lived an independent life without losing herself in spite of devastating betrayals and harsh reality.

Spoilers

Previously in “The Queen Who Crowns,” Won Gyeong and Lee Bang Won clashed over the tribute women demanded by the Ming Dynasty envoy, Hwang Eom (Park Soo Young). While Lee Bang Won agreed to the request, Won Gyeong strongly opposed it. When she uncovered Hwang Eom’s corruption and resolved the tribute issue, Lee Bang Won’s pride was wounded. Despite his efforts to strengthen the monarchy after ascending to the throne, Won Gyeong’s successes and the growing influence of her family, the Min clan, only threatened his authority.

The newly released stills tease the escalating tension between Won Gyeong and Lee Bang Won. In a previously released teaser for episode 9, Won Gyeong was seen firmly telling Lee Bang Won, “You are being cowardly,” to which he replied, “I am Joseon now.” This foreshadowed a fierce confrontation between the two. In one scene, Won Gyeong’s father, Min Jae (Park Ji Il), pleaded, “Please spare their lives,” as someone met their demise. Won Gyeong was also shown in heartbreaking grief, crying out, “How could you do this to me?” Her tears hint at a tragic fate and suggest the potential downfall of her family.

The production team stated, “Starting with the crown princess selection, Won Gyeong and Lee Bang Won will once again be caught up in a whirlwind of emotions,” adding, “Cha Joo Young and Lee Hyun Wook will also immerse themselves in the situation and deliver explosive performances. It was a scene that had everyone holding their breath during filming. Be sure to watch it.”

The next episode of “The Queen Who Crowns” airs on February 3 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
