Jeon Hye Jin Reflects On Her Role As A Working Mom In New Drama And What The Drama Aims To Convey

The upcoming drama “Riding Life” (literal translation) has revealed new stills featuring Jeon Hye Jin!

“Riding Life” follows working mom Lee Jung Eun (Jeon Hye Jin), who asks her mother, Yoon Ji Ah (Jo Min Soo), to give her daughter Seo Yoon (Kim Sa Rang) rides to academies as the girl prepares for the “7-year-old exam” (an entrance test for top English-language academies). Set in the cutthroat education hub of Daechi District, the drama takes a humorous yet thought-provoking look at the intense world of early childhood education and the pressures of private tutoring.

Jeon Hye Jin stars as Jung Eun, a beauty industry marketer and dedicated working mom determined to stay on top of her 7-year-old daughter’s education. Her struggles to balance her career and motherhood reflect Jeon Hye Jin’s own experiences as a working mom, adding depth and authenticity to the role.

Jeon Hye Jin explained why she chose the project, saying, “As a person who is interested in education [just like Jung Eun], the script caught my attention. It tackles realistic topics, and I was both moved and surprised while reading it.”

She also noted, “There are scenes where Jung Eun gets a call from her daughter or her daughter’s kindergarten and has to rush out. I’ve had similar moments on set, so I really connected with those scenes,” building anticipation for the drama.

Jeon Hye Jin wanted to portray Jung Eun as a well-rounded character with conflicting sides at work and at home. She explained, “At work, Jung Eun is a seasoned professional with experience and skill, which makes her confident. But as a mother, it is different. Unexpected things like a sitter quitting or disappearing happen. There is always some insecurity, and things don’t go as planned. I think these everyday challenges will bring more realism to the character of Jung Eun.”

When asked if she knew about the culture of giving children rides to academy, Jeon Hye Jin said, “I’m living my own version of it now,” sharing her experience. She added, “But I’m not as passionate about education as Jung Eun, [so after deciding to join the drama], I watched YouTube videos and joined mom forums to learn more about it.”

Finally, Jeon Hye Jin shared her thoughts on the drama’s main theme, saying, “‘Riding Life’ is our story. Jung Eun represents all working moms, but also the emotions of all parents raising children. Through Jung Eun, viewers will see how we change as we go from being parents to becoming school parents.”

“Riding Life” is set to premiere on March 3 at 10 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
