5 Moments That Amazed Us From Episodes 7-8 Of 'Study Group'

Every week, “Study Group” surprises us in new and exciting ways. Despite there being only two episodes left, the story is keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Previously, we were left holding our breaths at the moment Youn Ga Min (Hwang Minhyun) confronted Pi Han Ul (Cha Woo Min) for the first time, only after beating up Kim Sun Cheol (Ju Yeon Woo), one of his strongest backup fighters. Naturally, it didn’t take long for Han Ul to answer to this direct attack, heating things up more than they already had. Here are the most thrilling and amazing moments from the latest episodes!

Warning: spoilers from episodes 7-8 ahead!

1. Learning about Lee Han Kyeong’s reasons for being at Yusung High

Although the animosity between Han Ul and Ga Min has become personal, Lee Han Kyeong (Han Ji Eun) is also giving her all to stop Han Ul’s malicious deeds once and for all. In these episodes, we learn the reasons behind her decision to teach at Yusung High and why she is so fixated on bringing Han Ul’s terrible actions to light. The reason is the influence of her late teacher, who used to work at Yusung and was possibly killed under Ha Ul’s orders since she was also trying to uncover the real situation in the institution.

However, her mission won’t be easy to accomplish. Han Kyeong not only has to avoid the threat of those teenagers, but she also has to fight the corruption within the school and the authorities that have turned a blind eye to the situation, even covering up the suspicious death of their former teacher. While Han Kyeong appears to be prepared for everything, that doesn’t mean she is free from danger. Of course, she has the kids from the study group by her side, but we still don’t know how far she might be pushing her luck.

2. Youn Ga Min showing his skills to find new talent

So far, we’ve seen Ga Min being incredibly powerful and talented when it comes to fighting, but he has more than just these skills. He might not be the best when it comes to studying, but he definitely can identify when someone is eager to learn. And this doesn’t stop only at his school, but it applies to wherever he is. That’s how he meets Kim Sun Cheol’s grandfather, who is hospitalized due to a severe illness. Despite his condition, this old man doesn’t lose his desire to continue learning new things, even if he isn’t that good at it.

Ga Min’s ability to see the desire to study in somebody’s eyes is something even his study group members cannot ignore, which is why they believe him when he assures them that Kim Sun Cheol wants to stop spending his time as a backup fighter. However, due to his grandfather’s circumstances, Kim Sun Cheol has to remain by Han Ul’s side, even if that means ruining his future. Nonetheless, Ga Min is far from giving up on him as he firmly believes there’s always a way to find a better future through studies.

3. Pi Han Ul creating new problems

Just as Ga Min is strongly set on helping other students to focus on their studies, Han Ul is determined to take them down. In that sense, you can’t help but love to hate this antagonist. He isn’t your typical villain in the sense that he isn’t doing things out of spite or hatred. There’s something either twisted or a deeper motive behind his actions, which make him go as far as to manipulate young students to admit they committed certain crimes and cover for the real adult culprits, who are part of the Yeonbaek gang.

That’s how Kim Sun Cheol ends up implicated in a criminal case. Since he doesn’t have any other way to pay for his grandfather’s medical bills, he accepts going to jail instead of an adult criminal to have the money and probably a future job. But it is still uncertain how Han Ul will react when he sees that once again the study group is meddling in his plans, frustrating them, and potentially getting closer to uncovering all he is doing to build up his power and eventually surpass his father and his gang.

4. The study group teaming up to save another student

As Ga Min is fundamentally a good guy and he still wants to believe that people can change, he doesn’t hesitate to help when he is needed. The moment he knows Sun Cheol is being framed for a crime he didn’t do; he plans a way with his friends to find the evidence to prove Sun Cheol’s innocence. Despite the great danger they face, Ga Min seems to rise to another level. Although we’ve seen him defeating his adversaries in an instant, we have yet to see his full strength, which is partially shown when he destroys a whole door after getting locked out.

Furthermore, he isn’t alone. All his friends, even those who aren’t that physically skilled, are willing to help and fight the bad guys. It is no surprise after all, since the character developments of Lee Jun (Gong Do Yu) and Lee Ji Woo (Shin Su Hyun) are directly related to the good influence they have on their study group. It is the same case with Kim Se Hyun (Lee Jong Hyun) and Choi Hee Won (Yoon Sang Jung), who have found new courage after seeing their friend’s relentless bravery. In a sense, everyone in this study group has helped each other.

5. Youn Ga Min reaching a new goal with his friends

Although Youn Ga Min and his friends defeat yet another Yeonbaek gang member, they face the sad reality that Sun Cheol’s grandfather passes away just a few days after. However, he leaves them with a great lesson as they can bond and inspire Sun Cheol to leave Han Ul’s side for good. Now, without any other distractions in mind, this group of five brave students focuses on their midterms, which is the first test to prove their study group is working.

This nerve-wracking moment comes to a happy ending when Ga Min, despite his fears, finds out he actually improved his grades like the rest of the members of their study group. This gives Han Kyeong the chance to start a disciplinary committee against Han Ul—who won’t stay still and accept it. What will be the outcome for them and everyone at Yusung High? We will find out this week in the last episodes of “Study Group”!
