Choi Min Sik In Talks For New Drama Based On Spanish Play

Choi Min Sik may be starring in a new drama adaptation of “The Boy in the Last Row”!

On February 18, Kakao Entertainment—which is co-producing the upcoming drama—officially responded to reports of Choi Min Sik’s casting by clarifying, “Choi Min Sik has received a casting offer for ‘The Boy in the Last Row’ and is currently in talks to star, with a favorable outlook.”

Based on the Spanish play of the same name by Juan Mayorga, “The Boy in the Last Row” will tell the story of Moon Oh, a literature professor who once dreamed of becoming a writer but is now living a dull, uneventful life while feeling defeated and helpless. One day, he finds himself fascinated by the writing of Yi Kang, a student who always sits in the last row of his classroom, and his once forgotten ambitions and yearnings are reawakened.

Choi Min Sik has been offered the role of literature professor and failed novelist Moon Oh, who published a single novel in his youth but never got over the cold reviews he received from his peers—and as a result, was never able to write again. After becoming a professor at a prestigious university, Moon Oh struggles to suppress the disappointment and hatred he feels towards his students who can barely seem to string a sentence together. However, after reading something written by Yi Kang, he suddenly finds himself wanting to mentor a student properly for the first time—but his decision to offer to tutor Yi Kang privately winds up having unexpected consequences.

“The Boy in the Last Row” will be helmed by “Our Blues” and “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” director Kim Kyu Tae, while the screenplay will be written by “My Mother, the Mermaid” writer Jang Myung Woo.
