Watch: IU And Park Bo Gum’s Love And Life Unfold Across Decades In “When Life Gives You Tangerines” Teaser

Netflix’s highly anticipated drama “When Life Gives You Tangerines” has dropped its main trailer and character stills ahead of its release!

“When Life Gives You Tangerines” tells the adventurous life stories of Ae Sun and Gwan Sik as they experience the vibrant seasons of Jeju Island. IU plays the role of the bold and rebellious Ae Sun while Park Bo Gum stars as Gwan Sik, a quiet but reliable character.

The drama is written by hit writer Lim Sang Chun of “Fight My Way” and “When the Camellia Blooms” and directed by Kim Won Seok, who previously worked on “Misaeng (Incomplete Life),” “Signal,” and “My Mister.”

The newly released trailer offers a portrayal of life’s changing seasons. It opens with Ae Sun talking about her dreams while Gwan Sik patiently listens. Their exchange encapsulates the essence of their relationship—Ae Sun’s fiery ambition and Gwan Sik’s unwavering support. Additionally, Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon appear as the older versions of Ae Sun and Gwan Sik, hinting at a rich, lifelong journey that unfolds across decades.

The poignant tagline—“A story about love and life. In short, a story about you and I”—sets the tone for a deeply moving journey of the two youths. Spanning from 1960s Jeju to 2025 Seoul, the drama promises to deliver a heartfelt blend of joy, sorrow, and adventure, brought to life by a stellar ensemble cast.

Accompanying the trailer, the newly released character stills provide a glimpse into the colorful cast that shapes Ae Sun and Gwan Sik’s lives. From Ae Sun’s youthful days in a school uniform to her more mature years, the stills hint at the transformation of a fiery and rebellious dreamer over time.

Meanwhile, Gwan Sik is an unyielding iron who tackles everything—whether sports, business, or tough labor—without complaint. The stills offer glimpses of Gwan Sik’s unwavering devotion to Ae Sun, whether he’s watching her with deep affection or cautiously gauging her reaction. While Gwan Sik is a stoic and dependable figure, he becomes adorably clumsy and unpolished in front of Ae Sun.

As time passes, the grown-up versions of Ae Sun and Gwan Sik will be played by Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon, respectively. Their performances will further enhance the drama’s immersion, depicting how Ae Sun and Gwan Sik navigate life’s challenges with resilience as they settle into adulthood.

The stills also introduce the ensemble cast that breathes life into the drama. Kim Yong Rim stars as Gwan Sik’s grandmother Mak Cheon, while Na Moon Hee plays Ae Sun’s grandmother Choon Ok, adding emotional depth with their seasoned performances. Yeom Hye Ran plays Ae Sun’s mother Kwang Rye, and Oh Min Ae portrays Gwan Sik’s mother Gye Ok.

Choi Dae Hoon plays Sang Gil, while Jang Hye Jin portrays Young Ran. Ae Sun’s diverse circle of Haenyeo (female divers) is brought to life by Cha Mi Kyung, Lee Soo Mi, and Baek Ji Won. The cast also includes Jung Hae Kyun as Han Mu, Oh Jung Se as Byung Chul, and Uhm Ji Won as Min Ok.

“When Life Gives You Tangerines” is set to premiere on March 7.
