5 Things We Loved & Will Definitely Miss After The Final Episodes Of 'Study Group'

Study Group” has come to an end, and we can only be grateful for the amazing job done in bringing this webtoon-based show to life. Youn Ga Min (Hwang Minhyun) not only inspired viewers to study more but also taught us about courage, generosity, and friendship. He and his study group became more than characters—they created a whole new world for those who wish to become better and fight for what is right. In that sense, it is almost like the Avengers returned as Korean high schoolers! Here are some of the things that we loved the most from this show and that will stay with viewers for a long time.

Warning: spoilers from episodes 9-10 ahead!

1. Lee Han Kyeong’s relentless desire to protect her students

If there’s someone who understands what a teacher should look like, it’s Lee Han Kyeong (Han Ji Eun). Ever since her first day at Yusung High School, she made a clear statement: to change things for the students who wished to study. That was her late teacher’s mission, and she desired to make it come true. That’s why she pushes forward for the disciplinary committee for Pi Han Ul (Cha Woo Min), even when Ga Min and his group get framed as gangsters after their confrontation trying to save Kim Sun Cheol (Ju Yeon Woo). And even when they threaten to expel him. Han Kyeong’s hopelessness almost makes her give up on it; however, she trusts her students just as much as they trust her.

Although at times it may appear as if she lets her students fight her battles, in the end, she is the adult they can count on. So she ignores all of the warnings and threats to stop the disciplinary committee, determined to bring justice for all of Han Ul’s misdeeds. Ultimately, she gets what she wants and watches him get expelled. She bravely confronts those in power who tried to cover up the truth about the school and eventually fulfills her promise to the kids who put their faith in her, making her one of the most important characters of this show and one viewers will dearly miss.

2. Youn Ga Min and Kim Se Hyun’s friendship

Youn Ga Min might be the main character of this show, but through every up and down, the person who kept uplifting him was none other than Kim Se Hyun (Lee Jong Hyun). So when Se Hyun gives up on his dream to go to college after being framed as a bully, Ga Min has no choice but to follow him and make him return to his senses. Se Hyun is aware of his poor circumstances, the fragile relationship with his father, and the fact that studying may not be the solution to his problems. But still, he decides to stay by Ga Min’s side, proving their bond is stronger than anything.

Ga Min’s sincerity even inspires Se Hyun to overcome his fears and learn new fighting abilities from Ga Min’s mother, finally defeating one of Han Ul’s most vicious underlings. Although their friendship started on a weird footing, they slowly opened up to each other, turning into the most precious pair of friends. Hopefully, they will continue studying hard, relying on each other, improving their strengths every day, and achieving their dreams of going to college together in the future.

3. The amazing and exciting fighting scenes

One of the key points throughout the whole show has been the fantastic action scenes. At first, it was only Youn Ga Min who showed that impressive combat power, but as we reached the end, it wasn’t only him, but also the rest of the study group. When Han Kyeong tries to find the last piece of evidence against Han Ul, he sets a trap to force her to stop the disciplinary committee. But what Han Ul never expected was to find the study group ready to fight him, filling these last episodes with mind-blowing action and intense confrontations.

There was Kim Sun Cheol and Lee Ji Woo (Shin Su Hyun), who showed true teamwork in a two-to-two combat and also the unexpected fight between Lee Jun (Gong Do Yu) and his former best friend. And there was also Choi Hee Won (Yoon Sang Jung), who ends up leading the rest of the students against the Yeonbaek gang. A showdown straight out of the webtoon also happens when Ga Min and Han Ul fight for the first time. Although nobody has ever stood up to Ga Min’s forbidden techniques, Han Ul proves he is a match for him. However, there’s really no one who can go against Ga Min’s full power, and he ends up defeated.

4. Youn Ga Min and Pi Han Ul’s enmity

When it comes to Ga Min and Han Ul’s enmity, it wasn’t only about proving who was stronger between the two. That is shown during their brawl. As they fight head-to-head, it is clear this villain was meant to not only terrorize Yusung High but to also test Ga Min’s conviction and strength. Han Ul is convinced that no one can change their school, and even if he were to disappear, things would be the same for everybody.

In that sense, Pi Han Ul is an antagonist who sticks to you in more than one way. He is cold and heartless, and he can manipulate and threaten those who get in his way, but the complexity of this character is something we still have yet to discover. At the very end of the show, we can see that the dynamic with his father has greatly impacted his personality. But how far can his misdeeds be justified with his harsh upbringing? That is something that would be cool to see in a second season, along with everything related to Park Geon Yeop (Hong Min Ki).

5. The loyalty between the study group members

What viewers will miss the most from this K-drama is definitely the precious group that was formed out of the simple wish they had to have a peaceful student life. Even when they were framed and had to endure fighting several times against gangsters, bullies, and criminals, bleeding through every wound and studying for their midterms, they never lost their faith in each other. Especially Ga Min. As his mother says it herself, he found a place where he could be his happiest self.

Although “Study Group” only lasted 10 episodes, it is a show that leaves you wishing for more, like stories about Ga Min and his friends Se Hyun, Ji Woo, Jun, Hee Won, and Sun Cheol as well as their teacher Lee Han Kyeong. At least in my mind, they will continue working hard to reach their goal of graduating and changing things for the better at Yusung High School. Until then, it is time to say goodbye to this amazing K-drama!
