5 C-Dramas To Watch That Are Set In The World Of Fashion

The hypnotic world of fashion is a place where glamorous women and stylish men hold power. But beyond the spotlight, the reality can be very different. The stakes are high, and with the stiff competition, there is hard work and heartbreak as well as love and betrayal. Here are five C-dramas set in the dazzling sphere of fashion and glamour, where emotions come swathed in many shades.

Love Designer

Zhou Fang (Dilraba Dilmurat) is a kindhearted and optimistic fashion designer. A few days before her wedding, she realizes that her fiancé has not only been cheating on her, but he has also embezzled funds from the company they co-founded. To make matters worse, plagiarism charges and a legal suit have been filed against her company by Song Lin (Johnny Huang), a bright entrepreneur who runs a successful fashion design house.

Zhou Fang clears the penalty charges, even helping Song Lin nail down those who have been stealing his designs. The two end up becoming friends, and though Zhou Fang believes Song Lin doesn’t think much of her as a professional, she soon understands it’s his way of making her push the boundaries and evolve as a dress designer. Soon Zhou Fang is chosen as a participant on a competition, which Song Lin’s company is co-sponsoring with a rival fashion house.

As Song Lin falls in love with Zhou Fang, he is aware this could cause her trouble professionally. His rivals in the business use it as bait to call out Zhou Fang’s credentials as a designer, undermining her talent. There are misunderstandings between the two, until Zhou Fang realizes that Song Lin has put everything at stake to protect her. Just as Zhou Fang’s business takes off, Song Lin loses his business. There are conflicts and clashes, and the couple is now competitors in the work space. Can they tide through these storms?

“Love Designer” scores for the chemistry between Dilraba Dilmurat and Johnny Huang. The actors are effortless in their respective representation of Zhou Fang and Song Lin and complement each other. Song Lin’s character appeals as a supportive and confident boyfriend who never lets his girlfriend undermine herself for him.

Clocking in at 45 episodes, the drama can get stretched as too many sub-plots are interwoven within the narrative of the leads. But if you are a fan of Dilraba Dilmurat and Johnny Huang, then give this drama a shot.

Gu Cheng Ze (Jiang Chao) is the adopted son of the Gu Family and the CEO of Gu Mall. The senior Mrs. Gu is keen that her biological grandson Gu Jin Yun (Daniel Zhang), who is the rightful heir, is the one heading the family business. Cheng Ze is given the task to train Jin Yun, who has no interest in the family business.

However, Li Yan Shu (Tang Song Yun), a fashion designer and an ex-girlfriend to Jin Yun, could well be the perfect bait to get the errant Jin Yun to work. Cheng Ze onboards Yan Shu, and the plan works, since Jin Yun still has feelings for his former girlfriend. But Mrs. Gu is unimpressed and asks Cheng Ze to separate the two former lovers.

When Cheng Ze finds himself falling for Yan Shi, how will he execute his plans? While living up to the family’s expectations as well as discovering his own feelings for Yan Shi, is there a way out for him?

“The Fox’s Summer” is a cute drama. Though the show does require patience, the leads and the plot grow on you. And the relationship between the two leads is funny in a whacky sort of a way.

Standing in the Time

Li Xiao (An Yue Xi) is about to end her internship at a fashion magazine and hopes to snag a position as a full-time fashion editor. However, there are no positions in the department she wants. Her vibrant personality catches the eye of one of the seniors, who recommends her to the short-staffed proofreading department. On the other hand, Zhou Zi Mo (Xing Zhao Lin) is a struggling writer, who takes on modeling gigs in order to make ends meet.

The two meet, and the only thing they have in common is that they are both doing jobs they’d rather not do. They strike a friendship and grow close as they embark on a journey of self-discovery and love. The two realize that even though the paths were not ones they had chosen, it is only a slight detour toward their destinations.

A heartwarming romance, “Standing in the Time” cleverly showcases the arcs of the many characters. It also gives us an insight into the world of proofreaders, whose efforts often end up being overlooked. And the love story between Li Xiao and Zhou Zi Mo is cute. Li Xiao’s style statement is on point—it’s trendy, quirky, and stylish as she channels her inner fashion editor.
