3 Action K-Dramas To Watch If You Loved "Study Group"
Action K-dramas can be pretty addictive. They not only have a lot of thrilling moments and dynamic scenes but sometimes they also bring very compelling stories. The newest webtoon-based K-drama “Study Group” is one of these shows. The drama tells the story of Youn Ga Min (Hwang Minhyun), a first-year high school student. He only dreams of improving his grades and going to college, but he ends up becoming a sort of superhero who frees his school from a terrible villain. With its mind-blowing action moments, diverse characters, and a male lead that’s so charming, you cannot help but be obsessed with it. So, if you are in desperate need of another show that helps you overcome the drought after the finale of “Study Group,” here are four unskippable recommendations to binge-watch.
1. “Moving”
Can you imagine a world where real superpowers exist? And what if people with those abilities were part of a super-secret spy organization? That’s exactly the world in which “Moving” takes place. This K-drama tells the story of three different families during two separate generations but who are inevitably bound by the fact that they all have special abilities. Lee Mi Yeon (Han Hyo Joo), once a promising agent thanks to her extremely enhanced sense, lives alone with her only son, Kim Bong Seok (Lee Jung Ha), a sweet boy who unfortunately cannot control his ability to fly. He inherited this from his father, Kim Du Sik (Zo In Sung), an elite spy who disappeared when he was a baby. And it is this power which brings Bong Seok to meet interesting people.
The first person is Jang Hee Soo (Go Youn Jung), a girl who hides away after a terrible accident that revealed her ability to regenerate, the same one her father Jang Joo Woo (Ryu Seung Ryong) has. The second is Lee Gang Hoon (Kim Do Hoon), a brilliant boy who hides his super strength after he got his father, Lee Jae Man (Kim Sung Kyun), in trouble when he was younger. One day, their lives turn upside down when a powerful group in the government tries to find and use these young students for their benefit. Filled with action, friendship, and love, this show will keep you at the edge of your seat, proving why it is one of the most awarded K-dramas of 2023!
2. “Weak Hero Class 1”
They say it is always the quiet ones who turn out to be the most dangerous of all. If “Study Group” focuses on Youn Ga Min, who was able to destroy his adversaries with a single punch and struggled with his grades, “Weak Hero Class 1” is the complete opposite. Yeon Si Eun (Park Ji Hoon) is a smart and very analytical boy who is at the top of his class but lacks fighting abilities even though his father is an athlete’s coach. Although he tries his best to live a quiet and peaceful life, focusing on his studies, he becomes the target of the main bully in his school. On the other hand, there’s Ahn Su Ho (Choi Hyun Wook), an ex-athlete who doesn’t really care about others at school but always ends up helping Si Eun.
After they get into a tricky situation, they start a budding friendship with Oh Bum Seok (Hong Kyung), who hides a terrible and twisted past. However, their fragile bond gets quickly cut, and while Su Ho and Si Eun get closer, Bum Seok goes awry, getting them into new troubles to the point where Si Eun has to face his fears and become the most determined version of himself. Despite being a school K-drama, this show isn’t exactly an easy watch, but the action and dramatic twists in every episode make it definitely a must-watch for anybody who enjoys this genre. Furthermore, the second season is coming in 2025, so this is your sign to start binge-watching the first one!

3. “Taxi Driver”
Youn Ga Min and his study group might have been like superheroes at their high school, but life outside the institute can be much harder. When the government and those in power fail to protect the most vulnerable, there might not be superheroes around, but there is the Rainbow Taxi Company. Kim Do Gi (Lee Je Hoon), who works as a driver in this company, seems like a regular person until you realize he is an ex-Navy officer who lost his mother at the hands of a serial killer. Without any other motivation to keep going except seeking revenge, he joins Jang Sun Chul (Kim Eui Sung), an apparently nice businessman who lost his family like Do Gi and saw the authorities let go of the culprit unpunished.
Filled with a desire for revenge, they put together a group of experts who help innocent people get their revenge against those who have harmed them. However, their intervention in these criminal cases awakens the interest of prosecutor Kang Ha Na (Esom), who truly believes in justice. As they continue avenging their clients, they inevitably encounter a case of school violence, which centers the focus on the way abuse, neglect, and power can harm the students. This show perfectly combines every aspect of Korean society from work to school and presents the never-ending debate about the morality of fighting fire with fire and who ultimately ends up hurting the most in that.
