Lee Yo Won, SF9’s Chani, Lee Joo Shil, And More Navigate The World Of AI In Upcoming Sci-Fi Film "Galatea"
Upcoming film “Galatea” has unveiled an intriguing poster!
“Galatea” explores a world set in the near future where human-like AIs coexist with real humans in South Korea. The film expands on the universe of director Hwang Seung Jae’s award-winning film “The Interviewees,” which won the Grand Prize (Daesang) in the Video Category at the 8th SF Awards in 2021. Through a hyper-realistic depiction of the future, the film also delves into pressing social issues in modern-day Korea.
The newly released main poster exudes a dystopian vibe, featuring the striking faces of the cast against the backdrop of a faded apartment complex. The tagline, “The future has already been created!” hints that the film depicts events that are yet to occur.
At the center is Lee Yo Won, who plays a character determined to protect a pet AI abandoned by humans. She is shown pulling a suitcase, heading toward an unknown destination. Behind her, SF9’s Chani portrays Beom Soo, a son returning home after 100 years. Lee Joo Shil plays his mother, who has waited so long that her hair has turned white.
Also featured are Oh Hee Joon as Nam Gyu B, a man still paying off a home mortgage after centuries; Baek Soo Jang, who reunites with a long-lost love through AI; and rising star Lee Jae Yi.
Among the actors looking in different directions, Jung Kyung Ho is the only one staring at his AI counterpart, sparking curiosity about which version is human and which is AI. Adding to the intrigue, Jo Jae Yoon makes a strong impression, holding a shotgun while playfully guarding the film’s title. Meanwhile, Kim Kang Hyun, known for his sharp wit, is set to steal scenes with his signature charm.
“Galatea” is set to hit theaters across Korea on April 9.
