Lee Byung Hun Brings The Mind Of A Go Master To Life In Upcoming Film 'The Match'

Upcoming film “The Match” has unveiled new posters featuring Lee Byung Hun!

Directed by Kim Hyung Joo of “The Sheriff in Town,” “The Match” tells the story of the rivalry between legendary Go player Cho Hun Hyun (Lee Byung Hun) and his protégé Lee Chang Ho (Yoo Ah In). After losing to his student, Cho Hun Hyun embarks on a quest to reclaim his title.

The newly released posters highlight Lee Byung Hun’s expressive performance and sum up the film with powerful key phrases such as “dispassion,” “In a real game, momentum is 80 percent of the battle,” and “I’ve staked everything. The match begins now.”

To prepare for the role, Lee Byung Hun trained with a professional Go player and immersed himself in his character even before filming began. He followed the advice of grandmaster Cho Hun Hyun, who told him, “Do not place the stones carelessly.”

Lee Byung Hun shared, “They say that if a Go master’s first move is strong enough to make the opponent feel like they’ve already lost, it can shake their confidence. I spent a lot of time thinking about that.” He added, “Conveying the mindset of Go players with a calm and expressionless demeanor throughout a match was one of the biggest challenges for me.”

“The Match” is set to hit theaters on March 26.
