BTOB’s Yook Sungjae Becomes A Royal Archivist Possessed By An Evil Spirit In New Historical Drama “The Haunted Palace”

SBS’s upcoming drama “The Haunted Palace” has unveiled a sneak peek of BTOB’s Yook Sungjae’s character!

“The Haunted Palace” is a fantasy historical romantic comedy that delves into the tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit that bears a grudge against the king, a female shaman who opposes it, and an Imugi. In Korean folklore, an Imugi is an imaginary creature that spends a millennium in water and is able to transform into a dragon upon acquiring Yeouiju (magical jewel).

Yook Sungjae takes on a dual role as Yoon Gap, a royal archivist who becomes possessed by the evil spirit Imugi, known as Gang Cheol Yi—and also Yeo Ri’s (WJSN’s Bona’s) first love. He shifts from a kind and intelligent nobleman to a powerful and captivating villain, commanding attention with his unmatched charisma. As his character stirs chaos in the palace and the capital, excitement is growing for Yook Sungjae’s performance.

The newly released stills of Yook Sungjae as Gang Cheol Yi are drawing attention. His gentle and refined appearance as Yoon Gap has completely vanished, replaced by an intense and commanding presence.

The most striking detail is the Imugi’s scales, clearly visible along his neck. These mystical markings, blending with his pale skin, create an eerie yet captivating beauty. Adding to the transformation, his piercing, ice-cold gaze radiates the overwhelming power of an all-knowing evil spirit.

Additional stills reveal Gang Cheol Yi’s eccentric and unpredictable personality. Dressed in full ceremonial robes, he lounges carelessly on a daybed, his refined features contrasting with mischievous expressions and exaggerated gestures, adding a touch of humor.

In another shot, Gang Cheol Yi stands atop the palace roof in broad daylight, still wearing his ceremonial robes as he looks down at the world below. His unpredictable nature and undeniable, if arrogant, charm make him all the more captivating.

From his commanding presence to his eccentric, otherworldly charm, Yook Sungjae fully embodies the Imugi, a being with a thousand years of mystique. As his performance continues to captivate, anticipation is building for the drama’s premiere, where his talent is set to shine.

“The Haunted Palace” is scheduled to premiere in April. Stay tuned for more updates!
